Right-Wing Group to Attack AARP re Social Security

A fanatic right-wing group is planning a a multi-million dollar attack on the

AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) regarding AARP's staunch

opposition to Bush & Co.'s plans for privatizing Social Security.

USA Next's stated agenda is to be " the dynamite that removes " the " boulder in

the middle of the road [to Social Security privatizion] " , which is how they have

characterized AARP's opposition to Bush & Co.'s disastrous proposals.

The group, USA Next, declares that AARP is " out of step with Republican values "

(good for AARP, I say!). USA Next plans to hire the same firms to coordinate and

produce its attack that the cowardly and lying Swift Boat Vets used last year to

unjustly smear John Kerry and distort the truth about his record in Vietnam.

The president of USA Next, Charlie Jarvis, has this to say:

" We are going to take them on in hand-to-hand combat. " He has also called the

AARP " stodgy, overweight, bureaucratic and out of touch. "

I say:

Go to Iraq or Afghanistan if you want hand-to-hand combat, Charlie Jarvis.

What's YOUR war record? And speaking of overweight (and truly I hate to stoop to

a personal level or response, but in this case I am going to do it), Charlie

Jarvis using the word " overweight " as a slur against anything is the pot calling

the kettle black - he is a rather large (dare I say obese?)individual himself.

What delicious irony!

By the way, USA Next's big donors include pharmaceutical and energy companies.

Amazing, isn't it?

Some Democrats have accused USA Next of acting as a front for big pharmaceutical

companies in last year's Congressional House races - a charge that USA Next, of

course, staunchly denies. (But look - look! Charlie Jarvis's nose is growing!)

Here is a link to the USA Next website, in case you'd like to recognize the

enemy when you meet him:

Contrast the look and mood of these two sites. AARP, along with a link to their

views on Social Security, also has links to member discounts and services, free

tax help, computer help and advice, information on making the rooms in your home

safe for all, and various other useful topics.

USA Next, on the other hand, has a home page full of links to stories smearing

AARP, and as a bonus, a picture of Charlie Jarvis!

People, this is scary! Listen to how Charlie Jarvis describes USA Next's plans -

words dripping with violent images - " dynamite them " , " hand-to-hand combat. " I

suspect that Mr. Jarvis is a frustrated wannabe marine or arsonist who has

chosen to express his venom through political action that is no doubt extremely

lucrative while allowing him a public outlet for his fantasies.

If you value the security in Social Security, acquaint yourselves with the

program's enemies and work to educate others about their ideas and tactics.
