Sounds like he went to one of the newer pat answers of Dr's when they are

baffled, nowadays..sleep disorders..I hear of more and more people who have that

answer to baffling symptoms these days..well, then you have to go through a

sleep study, test a C Pap machine, invest in one of those (supposedly to help

you breathe better at night which solves most all problems). As a nurse, I'm

skeptical of these panacea to solve everything, weight problems, persistent

fatigue, and everything you hear. It has helped people with true apnea problems,

but I'm seeing this new " hot " diagnosis used far more than it should. Your

alternative version of detox, diet, supplements, sounds more promising, in my

opinion..all, my opinion.

I have disabling fibromyalgia-like symptoms which are triggered by

food and chemical reactions. Broadly speaking, the point of view I've

encountered in alternative medicine is that someone like me has

disordered immunological, metabolic, and intestinal functioning, and

should treat the problem with a specialized diet, supplements, and

perhaps a detoxification protocol. My primary care physician, who's a

superb doc but inclined toward a mainstream medicine point of view,

posits that my symptoms are the result of a sleep disorder and hasn't

been able to say much about the role of immunological and metabolic

dysfunction in my condition.

Since my symptoms occur as food reactions, it's clear to me that

there is an important element of immunological and/or metabolic

dysfunction occurring. Is it possible that my immune and/or metabolic

systems are disordered as the *result* of a sleep disorder, and that

by following my primary care physician's advice to focus on the sleep

disorder, I'll be able to resolve my symptoms via better sleep,

without having to enter the world of alternative medicine solutions

that are difficult to implement (I've tried, and it drives me crazy)

and not well accepted by the mainstream culture? Or is it too much of

a stretch to think that a sleep disorder could cause all of those

other problems?
