CORRECTION OF " LATEST NEWS OF FOX AND ITS ATTEMPT TO

SUPPRESS ALTERNATIVE VIEWS "

I was just informed that the Fox buys Al-Jazeerah

reference was a SATIRE. I’m afraid it was a little

too close to the reality for me to catch the joke.

SORRY. Thank God it wasn’t true.

Here’s what was going through my mind when I read that

Fox had bought Al-Jazeerah: I was thinking about the

end of the documentary film, Control Room, about

Aljazeerah’s reporting of the Iraq War. A charming

blond, All American sounding and acting young military

man was the spokesperson for the US troops. At the end

of the film the Arab AlJazeerah reporter turned to the

American and said, “Why don’t you come home with me

for dinner. We live near Jerusalem and my wife speaks

Hebrew.” In other words, the reporters were camped

out somewhere near Jerusalem, not in Southern Iraq or

Kuwait, and the All- American US spokesperson was

actually an Israeli, not a boy from the Midwest.

When I was in fourth grade, a classmate played an

April Fool’s Joke on our teacher. The boy wet a long

thick string and stretched it across the large

classroom window, so it looked just like the window

had a huge crack in it. When our teacher walked into

the room and saw the window, she just about died

thinking the expensive window was cracked. We all

shouted, “April Fools” and laughed uproariously at her

expense.

When it comes to our media, I’m finding these sorts of

pranks come a little too regularly to laugh at them.

Oh, but do you do this, too? Lately I find myself

laughing hysterically at the Internet news headlines.

Seriously, it’s not much of an excuse, but I didn’t

have a copy of Newsweek to verify the article

reference cited and took it on faith.

I always take what I read with a grain of salt

realizing that it will only be an approximation of the

truth, no matter how sincere the author is. From

time to time I hear comments in radio interviews that

are dead wrong, but the person in question truly

believes what he is saying. So we fish through all of

this mixture trying to arrive at some truth and a

better understanding of the world.

Again, my sincere apologies.
