Now a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial conducted on 113 subjects examined the positive effects of chromium picolinate supplementation on symptoms of atypical depression. The study was reported at the Conference of National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH) New Clinical Drug Evaluation Unit (NCDEU), Phoenix, AZ. Researchers found that daily supplementation with 600 mcg of chromium picolinate improved symptoms such as mood swings, fatigue and weight-gain perception; and significantly reduced carbohydrate cravings compared to placebo. The results also show that people with the highest levels of carbohydrate cravings had the most significant reduction in depressive symptoms after taking chromium picolinate.
