Guest guest
I think this is the where I posted my story about the genesis of my cat, Phantom (of the office), and my relationship. He was brought into my life in the dire necessity of evicting rodents who were dining on the electrical wiring at my office only after providing many a great meal of cheese unsucessfully producing the desired results at the mouse trap. I have walked many times through the isle at the grocery store with dismay over how people have such an emotional dependency on pets that they would support that industry that produces pet food knowing it was a high priced nutrional waste land that could better be spent feeding the staving children in China. However, after Phantom successfully performed his duty for which he was " employed " , the original plan to send him onto his next petowner was derailed by my own emotional attachement to this highly intelligent and psychic cat who keeps my feet warm at the computer and impatiently demands that I not keep him waiting when he needs to be let out ot go his outhouse sparing me the expense of kitty litter. I have endeavoured to provide Phantom the carnivour diet he deserves while I endeavour not to eat animals and have suscumbed to purchasing processed pet food. Never mind that he will regurgitate the dry food as evidenced by the remains that require cleaning upon discovery and he has sense not to eat an entire can of cat food and just lets it sit there on the floor uneaten. He has more sense that most humans refusing to eat food that is not good for him. While I am sure that he enjoys his basic animal instincts of self sufficiency stalking his prey that keeps his muscles strong as evidence by the occational feather and bird egg with the contents removed found in his domain that he shares with me, this discussion will motivate me not to buy any more processed pet food and make a point of going to the meat department one a week to buy him the raw meat with the uncooked enzymes he needs for digestion and proper nutrition. It's the least I can do out of appreciation for my devoted furry companion who keeps me company while I mourn the death of my Mother, Alma Virginia Sanders, who committed suicide on antidepressents that the manufacturers knew caused an increased incidence of suicide and lied to the public about withdrawal symptoms by deceptively calling them " discotinuation syndrome " as I enjoy the comfort of his furry comforting warmth while I consider how best to encourage the American public to take measures by political activism to demand that their State Representative and Senator refuse the Federal funding appropriated by Congress for Bush's " New Freedom in Mental Health " for compulsory mental health screening for ALL Americans as a precusor to involuntarily psychiatric medication for mind and behavior control. Thank you, Dr. Sandra Lance, D.C. 800 309 6560 ______________ Raw meat and bones, what pets ate before commercial food was invented in the 1940's to get rid of what wasn't fit for human consumption. Starris - PageRox As I chose this as my first-of-the-morning email...I was glad I at least had my coffee first! This is horrid, but I'm not surprised. As to the question posed by Tom, I see no answers! (Yet.) I give up--what SHOULD we feed our pets? I think Dr Lance's Grandma's cats ate mice, but I'm not sure about the dogs...perhaps they ate the cats? But then we're back to pet food being....well....pets! So, I must be wrong. (?) But, armed with the info from that link, and my own instincts that this was going on, I'd like to know what IS nutritional and safe (relatively) for pets. If our own meat and poultry is tainted--and cats and dogs are carnivores, I hope nobody suggests we feed our kitties tuna-flavoured tofu--;-)--what DO we feed them? I don't think Fluffy or Fido would cotton to anything less than meat, but I may be wrong. Any answers? The links are informative as to what the pet food industry is doing (or not doing) but they don't provide any alternative. I hope there is one... Happy Holidays everyone! :-D -Glenna/Seattle
