Guest guest
Hi Glenna, I'd offer that " we do the best we can for them " . Since we buy our meats from the grocery store, at least those of us who aren't close to areas with farms, etc., I feed my dogs and cats meats from there. I'd like to find a source of good, real (not cleaned) green tripe, but other than that my dogs & cats eat beef, pork, lamb, chicken, turkey, and whatever other meats I can find. I base my feeding on the 'prey' model, so pork necks (the big slabs, not the little pieces found for sale in the butcher counters) so they have something to chew on and rip meat from and then chew on the bones. They also get heart and livers, etc. I feed large chunks or partial chickens, actually the bigger the better, so they don't gulp and possibly choke on smaller things, like chicken necks, etc. The ripping and tearing slows them down and makes it as safe as kibble, and Much better for them. * That is my personal opinion.* I used to feed more to the BARF or biologically appropriate raw food theory by Billinghurst, but since studying more, realizing that dogs aren't omnivores, but true carnivores, I was glad to stop the veggies, etc. I do feel eggs to my dogs, and some table scraps too. Just don't feed grains or veggies unless it's leftovers from the table. For 5 years now I've had great luck with this and only vet visits are for injuries, etc. Works for me. marian, Creena, Gareth & SamThePoodle " Unanswered questions are not as dangerous as Unquestioned answers " On Dec 24, 2004, at 9:14 PM, wrote: > But, armed with the info from that link, and my own instincts that > this was going on, I'd like to know what IS nutritional and safe > (relatively) for pets.
