RE: Pittman granted bond; unclear as to whether he will be able to leave

jail

Dear Tom Baxter, Chief Political Correspondent for the Atlanta Journal

Constitution,

Could you please tell me the address of where this young man has been

incarcerated

in South Carolina? He was on Zoloft when the drug made him shoot both his

grandparents when he was 12 years old. Now he's 15 and was just granted bond

I want to send a donation to help his family pay for his bond.

He has no family in South Carolina where he can stay if they let him out.

This is a very tragic story and that needs to be reported on to save the

lives of our children from the side effects of these drugs-homocide &

suicide. You have the power of the pen to save lives and I implore you to do

so.

..

Do you know if those two girls that shot one of the girls' grandparents were

on

psychiatric medications? The FDA is exposing the side effects of suicide in

the Congressional hearings but not the homocidal side effects.

I'm not sure but I think this 12 year old boy shot his grandparents and

burned down the house while under the influence of Zoloft. Didn't those two

girls shoot the grandparents and burn down the house in Atlanta?

In my hometown of Huntsville, Alabama there was a young boy that went on a

rampage and mutilated his entire family including decapatitation. Last year

there was a very large settlement against the drug manufacturer. If you want

the details I can get the name of the attorney that settled that case.

I spoke with Corey Adams, Chief of Staff for Commissioner Emma Darnell about

my concerns that some of our prisoners that we don't room for because of all

the crime may have been under the influence of these psychotrophic

medications that cause agressive behavior.

Last Thursday on Primetime GlaxcoSmithKline's internal documents were on ABC

website admitting that they knew in 1997 that Paxil was causing suicide and

withdrawal symptoms.

This may be the next case like the cigarette manufacturers who later were

financially liable for the damages they caused and be a source of revenue to

compensate Fulton County for the prisoners that the State doesn't even have

room to house.

There are other cases pending but this one is a biggie.

The child was only 12 YEARS OLD when the Zoloft made him kill his

grandparents.

He doesn't even have family living in South Carolina to go and live with.

It just makes me want to cry.

I can't go up there and help him so I'd at least like to be able to send him

some money to help him make his bond and have his liberty before the rest of

the trial if you know where it is being tried I can called information and

get the number of the courthouse.

He's not even old enough to have a driver's license.

Please, please, please help this boy by running a story on him.

I can put you in touch with people that know more about the story than I do.

The drug manufactuers are giving big money in legal fees to the D.A. to

prosecute him as an adult because they understand the financial ramification

of this child being found not-guilty because their drug caused him to do it.

Thank you very much, Tom.

I'm a Mother and it just breaks my heart to think of this child being in

prison from the time he is 12-15 and now all he needs is money not to be in

a prison cell.

We are forming an organization, Antidepressent Victims' Society, and I want

to make the contribution in that name in honor of my Mother that I miss very

much this Christmas season.

Thank you very much,

Pittman granted bond; unclear as to whether he will be able to leave

jail

Christopher Pittman

Jason Cato/The Herald

A judge on Thursday granted bond to Christopher Pittman, the 15-year-

old boy charged with killing his grandparents in Chester County three

years ago.

Circuit Court Judge Daniel Pieper set Pittman's bond at $175,000, of

which 10 percent would have to be posted to get the boy out of jail.

One term of his release is that Pittman would not be allowed to leave

South Carolina.

His family is trying to determine how to raise the necessary money as

well as figure out where the boy would stay. Pittman's immediate

family lives in Florida, where he was raised before coming to live

with his grandparents in Chester County in October 2001.

Pittman was arrested on Nov. 29, 2001, for killing Joe Frank Pittman

and Joy Roberts Pittman. Police say he shot the couple while in bed

before setting the house on fire and fleeing in a family vehicle. He

was 12.

His trial has been scheduled to begin Jan. 31. His attorneys will

offer the defense that an adverse reaction to the antidepressant

Zoloft caused Pittman to become violent and homicidal.

He is still slated to be tried an adult, where a guilty conviction

could result in a sentence of life in prison. A hearing was held two

weeks ago in Charleston to have the case sent back to juvenile court,

but Pieper has yet to rule on the issue.
