Guest guest
Dr. Sandra Lance, D.C., I am not an expert on depleted uranium, just a person that is interested. I can only tell you what I have read Can Depleted Uranium 1. I understand that the American soldier that is being exposed to Depleted Uranium in Iraq is having his/her gonads exposed to radiation and therefore more likely to have cancer alterations to their DNA and birth defects in the offspring. Can, for example, the semen of returned soldiers cause the females with whom they copulate to have cancer or any other type of health care impact being exposed to a soldier that has been exposed to depleted Uranium? Karen: I have read from several sources that the wives of soldiers exposed to DU and their future children often have serious health problems and birth defects. I have not read of any instances of children born before the parent's exposure to DU or other people that are around the soldier having any problems. It is apparently in the semen. 2. Are persons who are not sexually active with returning Iraq soldiers such as family members in close physical contact and eating with the same utensils and their toothbrushes in near proximity, etc. at any health risk because of any radiation or biochemical exposure while in Iraq? Karen: I haven't read of any problems such as this. 3. Are persons who are in social, work, church, or any public exposure to soldiers returning from Iraq who have been exposed to biochemical agents and radiation at any health risk from contact? Karen: I am not an expert, but I have not heard of this. 4. Does exposure to depleted uranium and/or biochemical agents cause symptoms that might be diagnosed as " mental illness " that would be treated with Selective Serotonin Reinuptake Inhibitors (SSRI-antidepressents, Paxil, Wellbutrin, Prozac, etc.) that might have the side effect of suicide as reported in the Congressional hearings in Nov. that the FDA now admits is cauing CHILDREN to commit suicide but has not taken off the market? Karen: I would sure think that having your health destroyed by your government could lead to depression and other mental problems and lead to suicide in some people. There is a high rate of suicide among soldiers in Iraq which I would think would not just be from DU but also from the psychological affects of killing civilians and wounding young children.
