EFF, Verified Voting Push for Post-Election Tests on E-voting Machines

Independent Tests by Counties May Answer Lingering Questions About

Accuracy, Machine Failures

 

San Francisco - On November 2, voting machines in many states --

both " red " and " blue " -- had problems that led thousands of citizens

to call a national voter protection hotline. The Electronic Frontier

Foundation (EFF) and the Verified Voting Foundation (VVF) were at the

other end of the line, and the two organizations are very concerned

about what they heard. In several states, voters who chose one

presidential candidate were presented with confirmation screens that

listed another candidate's name. In others, machines crashed and were

rebooted repeatedly, but nobody knows whether votes were lost.

 

EFF and VVF have responded by sending letters to voting officials in

the eight counties that experienced the worst technical problems,

urging the officials to allow independent testing of the machines.

Such tests could reveal what went wrong and whether anyone tampered

with the devices. Prominent technical experts including Rice

University computer science professor Dan Wallach and security guru

Bruce Schneier have agreed to help conduct these tests.

 

In addition to petitioning the county officials directly, EFF and VVF

are calling on the public to let voting officials know that they

would like to see truly independent testing of the machines used in

this election.

 

The counties in question are Broward and Palm Beach in Florida,

Mahoning and Franklin in Ohio, Mercer and Philadelphia in

Pennsylvania, Harris in Texas, and Bernalillo in New Mexico.

Concerned citizens who live in these counties can contact their local

voting officials or add their signatures to the EFF/VVF electronic

petition. When 10,000 people have signed the petition, the groups

will deliver a copy to the officials in the target counties.

 

" The election is over, but voters can still make a difference for our

democracy, " said EFF Legal Director Cindy Cohn. " Asking that these

machines be tested independently is a crucial first step. "

 

VVF Executive Director Will Doherty added, " We now have a chance for

qualified voting technology experts to help remedy the problems we

documented with paperless e-voting machines in the 2004 election. "

your election was a fraud and has called upon our country as well as

others to reject it. While I am not that familiar with your elections,

I am all too familiar with ours and the funny thing is, that many here

see our election as being fraudulent. Perhaps, you should state to our

out going Secretary of State that you see our elections as being

fraudulent and that you reject the results of it.

We, the undersigned, request that our elected representatives

act in

accordance with the Constitution of the United States of America

in a legal, impartial and expedient manner for an open hearing

before the people of the United States and if such wrongdoing,

illegal practices, manipulation of voting records or processes is

of such a nature to indicate egregious or extensive tampering,

alteration or misappropriation of the voting process that the

violators be brought to justice and remedies, potentially

including a nationwide audit, recall, recount or new election be

imposed by your bodies.

 

We the undersigned hereby petition all members of the

Congress of the United States of America; all Senators and

Members of the House of Representatives.

The signers of this Petition calls on congress to immediately

and without delay open a joint investigation into potential

wrongdoing in the Presidential Election of 2004, specifically to

investigate the potential of voting machine manipulation or

purposeful malfunction, especially electronic voting machines

manufactured and supplied by Diebold, Inc.; Electronic Systems

& Software (ES & S); Sequoia Voting Systems, and others, and

also to identify and investigate all allegations of improper

conduct by election officials, workers, observers, challengers

and operatives and employees of both major parties concerning

the voting process including intimidation, dissemination of

improper information, manipulation of registration records,

improper handling of actual voting ballots and, in general, any

and all potential improprieties which could have led to improper

or inaccurate election results.

We the people demand that Congress not limit such inquiries

and expect such inquiries not be limited to any particular state,

precinct or district but strive to examine the voting process in any

and all areas in which there is even the slightest indication of

impropriety,

 

We feel it is our patriotic duty to request such action from you, our

elected officials, and your duty to respond in a responsible

manner.

Computers are inherently subject to programming error,

equipment malfunction and malicious tampering.

Paperless electronic voting machines make it impossible to

safeguard the integrity of the vote.

Bay Point School is a juvenile correctional facility in the Miami

area. Information has been given to the Washington Post, the

Miami Herald, BlackBoxVoting.org, VoteFraud.org and

CommonDreams.org that the Miami school is a suspected

training ground in computer science and programming for

juvenile delinquents who have trained in the art of manipulating

electronic voting, without a true audit trail. It is believed that this

activity is taking place not only there but also in several schools

like the aforementioned one nationwide. If true, then Bay Point

School could be the Florida connection. " It is possible as many

as six states election results have been altered by recruits from

Jeff Fisher through a confidential informant alleges that the

school has direct connections with Joseph Klock, and that a

professor at Key College in Dania Beach, Florida and formally of

Bay Point School informed him that his loyalty to Klock is more

important than the truth about how the 2000 election was

manipulated, and how it is possible for a repeat to occur in the

upcoming November general election. Mel Sembler, a powerful

fundraiser for the Bush Campaign in Florida, is someone who

has knowledge of the activities at Bay Point College. We are sure

the talented people of the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune

and the Miami Herald will release additional details in the

upcoming days. Mel Sembler is Ambassador to Italy and a

principal in several drug treatment facilities that are under

investigation for gross mismanagement.

 

Joseph Klock, an attorney who facilitated the release of the

professor's son from an abusive treatment center was,

coincidentally, the attorney for Congresswoman Katherine Harris

who was the Secretary of State during the contested 2000

Florida recount which helped put George W. Bush in the White

House.

Everyone must demand a National Revote for all races (local,

state and federal) due to their Voting Rights being violated by

electronic manipulation on November 2, 2004 and/or during the

early voting time allotment. The Electoral College makes the final

decision on which the next President of the United States will be.

We must be vigilant and act now as our founding fathers did
