Wake up and stop smelling the coffee:

[Health India]: London, Oct 21 : The next time someone tells you to wake up and

smell the coffee don't take it literally, instead go ahead and chuck your coffee

making machine as a new study has revealed that having more than one cup of

coffee a day increases the risk of heart disease and even one cup is 'risky.'

According to the study, which has been published in 'The American Journal of

Clinical Nutrition,' people who drink more than 200ml of coffee a day are more

prone to get heart inflammation.

The researchers from the University of Athens and Harokopio University, studied

3,000 people and found that men who drank more than 200ml of coffee a day had 30

percent higher levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) and 3 percent higher white

blood cell counts,

which are indicators of cardiovascular inflammation, than those who did not

drink coffee.

Women had 38 percent higher CRP and 4 percent higher white blood cell counts,

reports BBC.

The researchers, however, were not able to zero in on why coffee causes

cardiovascular inflammation but think that the ingredients acafestol and

kahweol, found in unfiltered coffee, could be the culprits. Earlier studies have

linked Cafestol and Kahweol to high cholesterol levels.

" We did not expect the results for such low amounts of coffee but they are

intriguing.

Our results show that coffee drinkers are at higher risk of cardiovascular

inflammation and what we need now is clinical trials into this. I would not go

as far to say people should stop drinking coffee but I personally have cut down

the amount I drink, " the report quoted professor Antonis Zampelas, the co-author

of the study, as saying. (ANI)

Dear JoAnn and all.

Did the study use regular pesticide, artificially fertilized coffee beans?

Or did the study use organically raised , naturally fertilized, naturally

defended pest controls?

I don't think it's fair to throw the naturally (organically) raised baby

coffee beans out with the chemically doped beans..... the organic farmers

are putting a lot of effort in to *clean* beans. Personally , I have no

headache, no heartburn when using organically raised coffee, but I had kick

back when using regularly grown coffee. NG
