Guest guest
I thought you would be interested in the following statement. =================================================== STATEMENT OF UNITED STATES SENATOR BARBARA BOXER VETERANS DAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2004 Veterans Day is celebrated on the eleventh day of the eleventh month. It is a day to remember the tremendous sacrifices that America’s veterans have made to defend the freedom and democracy of our nation. As we reflect on their exceptional courage, we also pause to think of the numerous American troops currently serving in foreign lands, too often in harm’s way. Armistice Day, as it was originally known, was officially established by Congress in 1938 as a way to commemorate the end of World War I on November 11. Later, Congress changed the name to “Veterans Day” to pay homage to all veterans. Our men and women in uniform knowingly, willingly and repeatedly put their lives at risk to protect our nation. For this, we are eternally grateful. This year, let us also remember our troops serving in so many areas of the world. They continue to serve our nation and Veterans Day provides us with an opportunity to provide them with an expression of our appreciation. I ask Californians and all Americans to join me in remembering and commemorating our veterans on this Veterans Day. If you would like to do more to support our troops, I encourage you to visit my website at http://boxer.senate.gov and click on the “support our troops” banner. You will find many actions that you can take to give aid and comfort to our troops. You will also find a special feature on Veterans Day on my website. http://pets.care2.com/ " The price of apathy towards public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.
