Guest guest
Reversing Memory Loss by H. Vernon, M..D. Alcoholism, Brain Poisoning, and Memory Loss http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/039594452X/ref=pm_dp_ln_b_2/102-72\ 59945-2615304?v=glance & s=books & vi=contents Excerpts from book: “Memory deficits in people who consume large amounts of alcohol are often difficult to ascribe to one cause to the exclusion of others. While it is true that people drinking alcohol are poisoning their brains, other factors may enter the clinical picture, making the precise cause of memory loss difficult to define. Nutritional deficiencies, for example, are common among persons who consume large amounts of alcohol (perhaps 6 percent of the adult population: 10 percent of those who drink alcohol can be classified as alcohol abusers or alcoholics) Certain B vitamins are often lacking in the diets of alcohol abusers, especially vitamin B-1, or thiamine. Thiamine deficiency is associated with a disease called Korsakoff’s psychosis which produces a memory loss and can be corrected only if the thiamine and vitamins B-5 and B-6 are taken in sufficient quantities to saturate the tissue before permanent brain damage occurs…. “The most important fact you should know about alcohol is that it is a brain poison…..But without enumerating the famous or infamous persons whose lives were destroyed by alcohol, I want to stress that the average individual who poisons his or her brain with alcohol is less able to solve the problems one encounters from day to day in our competitive and complex society. Memory impairment by brain poisoning makes us less prepared and less resourceful in responding to the challenges of our world. My own view is that for optimal brain function the intake of alcohol should be zero…” “Finally, there is the question of the celebratory glass of wine taken once a month or once a week. How much harm will a single glass of wine or can of beer do to the brain? The answer is that we don’t know…” “The choice is yours to make. Your brain is the most precious organ in your body. It needs the utmost protection—especially from brain poisons.”
