About p2p-Politics

FAQ

What's the purpose of this site?

There is an extraordinary range of political speech that has been

created for this election, some of it professionally made, most of it

not. We are volunteers who think that it should be easier for people

to show other people the content they think they should see before

they vote.

We built this peer-to-peer site to enable people to send personalized

messages with links to video clips about this election.

Can't people already do this by going to the various campaign sites?

Yes, they can, but we wanted to collect a wider range of content, both

professional and not, and build a single site to collect it.

We invite anyone -- campaigns or individuals -- to submit content they

would like to see included on this site. Our only requirement is that you:

1. have the copyright to enable that donation to the Internet

Archive and

2. that you license the content under a non-exclusive, Creative

Commons license for others to access or download for non-commercial

purposes.

If you would like to donate content, submit an ad.

Does this have anything to do with p2p filesharing?

It is peer-to-peer, or people-to-people, but the files are not

themselves shared. Only links to files are shared.

Where is the content hosted?

The Internet Archive hosts the content under a Creative Commons

license. The links on our site and in our emails point to the Internet

Archive.

Is Creative Commons sponsoring the site?

No. The site uses Creative Commons licenses to make it easy to collect

and share the content, consistent with copyright. But Creative Commons

is not sponsoring or supporting the site.

Who built the site?

A group of volunteers who thought it was worthwhile -- see the credits

below.

Why do you have a lot of pro-Kerry/anti-Bush content?

We intend this site to be non-partisan, though we acknowledge that the

content that we were able to collect initially has a decided bias.

MoveOn.org generously contributed many of the ads volunteers submitted

to their Bush in 30 Seconds contest. The Kerry campaign also provided

us with clips from their website.

We have asked the Nader and Bush campaigns to do the same. We're very

hopeful to get content from all the major campaigns and we encourage

them and their supporters to let us help others share their message.

Do the ads have to be sponsored by the campaign?

No. Any relevant, decent, and authorized content is allowed. We have a

curating process to assure abusive content is not added. But we are

eager to encourage a wide range of messages.

Please Note: The candidates and the political parties they represent

do not necessarily approve the content distributed by any third party

listed on this website. For content the candidates officially endorse,

please visit their respective websites.

Do you have an RSS feed?

Yes, we do. And it includes enclosures.

Privacy Policy

This site collects no user information at all. We do not collect or

retain email addresses. We do not use cookie technologies to track

users. Our server, like any, gathers IP addresses. We will only use

that data to track abuse. Finally, we will gather statistics to

calculate total usage of the site, and to count the frequency of

downloads.

some ideas by Lawrence Lessig. If you have questions, please contact

Elaine Adolfo. None of this would be possible without the generous

support the Internet Archive gives to free resources on the Internet.
