Guest guest
FCNL: CALLING ALL YOUNG VOTERS; GET FREE STUFF FROM FCNL (9/24/04) As voter registration deadlines approach, it is important that we as students and young adults take the initiative now to get ourselves and all our friends registered to vote. Contrary to what Fox News has told its viewers, the US Supreme Court ruled that college students have the right to register to vote either in the home district or in the district where their school is located (but not both). If you are registered in your home district but living on campus in another district, make sure you sign up now to get an absentee ballot (go to http://capwiz.com/fconl/e4/? Click on your state and scroll down). The federal government does NOT require that you have a photo ID with you when you vote, nor do you have to have all your bills and traffic tickets paid. However, some states bar felons from voting while other states require that the name and address on your driver’s license exactly match the ones on your voter registration card. Check this out before you go to the polls. Try to bring your voter registration card and driver’s license with you just in case. If you are concerned about protecting your right to vote, go to http://www.electionprotection2004.org/ and http://www.sclcnational.org/ Remember, just 300 votes decided the election in New Mexico in 2000. Most colleges have more than 300 students, so your vote does matter! For more information on your rights and what to do on November 2 go to www.lwv.org and click on “Get the Facts.” You can also get information, tool kits, and FREE buttons, stickers, bumper stickers and more at http://www.fcnl.org/elections_2004.htm. FCNL encourages local and school newspapers to publish non-partisan information about the national, state and local elections, the candidates and the issues to keep readers informed. Go to http://www.fcnl.org/elections_2004.htm and enter your zip code to find out more.
