Unfortunately, about 6 or 7 weeks ago, we fell, and had a

bad concussion. We also knocked our centres of balance off,

in our inner-ears. This meant repeated falls. Our right

wrist is dodgy at the best of times, and we kept catching

ourself on it, dislocating and spraining it very badly. We

have had repeated concussions.

It reached the point where the pain was so unbearable that

we required hospitalisation in a dark room with no windows.

We are suffering memory problems.

We totally lost the ability to read, for a few days, and

have slowly been regaining the ability to write, in the past

few weeks. At furst we wur riten fonetikly. We don't give

up. We don't give in. We are a writer, and a graphic

artist, and we refuse to have all our gifts stripped from us --

we lost ALL ability to do maths, and physics was a hobby of

ours, from a very bad concussion in 1994 -- because we are

clumbsy.

English spelling (for those of you for whom English is a

second language, and for many for whom it is not) is absurd.

We could spell in French, Spanish, and Italian, with

reasonable accuracy. If we stuck to Latinate English, we did

better than when we used Anglo-Saxon words. Too bad all the

USEFUL words are Anglo-Saxon.

Approximately 5% of the human population are auditory,

rather than visual thinkers. We fall into that category. We

have rehabilitated ourself, by reading to ourself aloud.

Writing/typing/spelling is still extremely slow, and brings

on agonising headaches. We are not going to stop trying.

The written medium has always been, since the body was less

than two years old, available to us, in several languages.

Please forgive our absence, especially from our groups.

The headaches and drugs have kept us face down, in bed, in a

darkened room. When we have done graphic arts on the

computer, we have had to wear driving, photo-sensitive

sunglasses, more often than not.

Then there was the small matter of our partner of seven

years moving out for a couple of days...

Is there a group link anyone can send us, for survivors of

traumatic brain injury?

I just found this one:

http://www.neuroskills.com/

In the pane on the left, click the " Tools " menu and choose " Message

Board " .

Besides that, depending on where you live, you may be able to locate

a TBI help group that meets periodically. My husband had a TBI years

ago due to an accident with an 18-wheeler on an interstate highway.

He had lingering effects from a subtle brain injury. He had become

more aware of them, and more troubled by them, in recent years but he

has been improving since we made some dietary changes over the past

couple of years. He went from being unable to focus on his business

(farming) to doing his own legal research and filing his own motions

in court.
