New EU legislation could see Vitamin C tablets, which help to fight infections, and the mineral Boron, which is important for developing strong bones and teeth, among others, made illegal. Despite strong protests from the Conservatives and pressure group Consumers for Health Choice, the Government has accepted the latest proposals from Brussels. Mr Chris Grayling, Ms Bruce's predecessor, explained the situation: This may be our last chance to change this unnecessary and damaging EU legislation. With the public's help, we will do everything we can to force ministers to preserve access to these products on behalf of British consumers. Mr Grayling and Ms Bruce are asking residents to sign an electronic petition. More than a million postcards in support of the campaign have been distributed nationwide. Thousands of cards have been handed out to users in Warrington. Although the Government has accepted the European law, the way in which the laws are implemented can still be challenged. Ms Bruce added: The threat to vitamin tablets is yet another example of excessive European Union influence on our daily lives.
