Dear Group,

When someone takes drugs to treat mental conditions it can cause two

or three problems instead of one.

Psychotropic drugs cause a change in the neurotransmitters of the

brain, intestines ( majority of ssri receptors are in the intestines),

etc. and when a person comes off them too fast it can cause a too

sudden shift once again in the neurotransmitters.

A lot of the psychotropics are addictive so that may be another

problem too.

No one should abruptly stop taking any psychotropic medications if

they have been on them some time.

They should be tapered very slowly over time. A general rule of thumb

is to do it in steps of no more then a 10% reduction of dosage at any

one time and then to let yourself stabilize between steps before

reducing another 10% or less in the next step. ( M.D.s are not usually

considered good sources for the necessary information to safely get

off these meds)

There are links on our links page to do the research in order to learn

before coming off these drugs. It is very important, so please educate

yourselves before stopping any psych meds.

Frank
