The team evaluated the association between dietary intake of EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and prostate cancer risk in a cohort of 47,866 men between 40 and 75 years of age who were free from prostate cancer at the beginning of the study. After 14 years of follow-up, 2,965 subjects developed prostate cancer. Of those 2,965 subjects, 448 developed advanced prostate cancer. Researchers found that men with the highest intake of EPA and DHA had an 11% reduced risk of developing prostate cancer and a 26% reduced risk of developing advanced prostate cancer.
