Guest guest
http://www.redflagsweekly.com/na4.htm August 2, 2004 Alert " Medical News Today " Is This News? We've been closely monitoring Medical News Today for a while now and want to alert you to the simple fact that this website is sometimes a vehicle for press releases. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this, except that many of the pressers can be picked up (even by alternative health sites) as apparent real news (or at least seemingly discussed as such). There is a strong trend on the Internet that can confuse news that is actually reported by real reporters and " news " written by PR specialists or simply processed by editors. Medical News Today, the website in focus here, which does a good job of processing press releases, is supported by an " international educational grant " from Big Pharma giant, AstraZeneca. In future, when you read " news " that comes from Medical News Today, you might consider determining yourself whether the " news " is a press release or a re-cooked press release in contrast to a link that leads to a site that has actually reported " news. " Now, these days, what is reported by mainstream and alternative news media may be nothing more than crack-a-pot agenda-furthering information and so the distinction between reported " news " and press release " news " can be blurred. But this only further demonstrates the kind of vigilance and cross-referencing that is becoming increasingly necessary to separate hype from substance.
