I do NOT believe this is off topic ... because I know

some people who have become sensitive to violence

and foul language even on PG-13 rated movies. They

obviously don't deliberately watch those rated higher

than PG-13, because of their sensitivity.

Therefore...... I thought this would be interest to this

Group's members and/or for gifts to family or friends.

" New DVD Player Filters Out Violence "

ClearPlay has developed video-editing technology that can

cut offensive content such as violence, nudity, and foul

language from DVD movies. The technology is featured in

RCA-brand DVD players, CNN reported April 28.

" This gives you virtually unprecedented control over movies, "

said ClearPlay CEO Bill Aho. " You can decide what you want

to see and what you don't, and the end result is something

that is seamless. "

Users can select from 100 preloaded movie filters in the

DVD player to edit out offensive content. A checklist of

14 categories -- from graphic violence to explicit drug use --

comes programmed in the player.

" This is unique technology, " said Tara Dunion, a representative

from the Consumer Electronics Association. " It provides a

good option for people who are looking for safe viewing

alternatives for their children. "

The movie industry has strongly criticized the new technology.

" Traffic " director Steven Soderbergh and members of thes Guild of America have filed a lawsuit against

ClearPlay, claiming that the technology violates copyright laws.

" ClearPlay software edits movies to conform to ClearPlay's

vision of a movie instead of letting audiences see, and judge

for themselves, what writers wrote, what actors said, and

what directors envisioned, " a guild representative said in a

statement.

The device, which is available at Wal-Mart, retails for

about $70. There is also a fee to access ClearPlay's library

of movies.
