QUESTION about Milk Thistle

marykaye,

the typical dosage is between 70 and 210 milligram capules 3 times per day. Or

1/4 to 1 teaspoonful of milk thistle tincture 3 times per day. It is a

relatively safe herbal suppliment, only known side effect is loose stools if

this happens then slighlty decrease your dosage.

I hope this helps, \

Thank you Michele.

I've been taking four (4) 240mg caps per day, for about two years. The

terrible, god-awful(!) itching, associated with liver problems, has returned

Last time I had this happen...I scratched so hard and deep, for so long,

that I have scars on my face, arms, and torso.

The doctor has written an Rx, that I haven't filled. Would rather continue

with milk thistle. I'm thinking of upping the dosage to 6 caps per day..

possibly going to 8, if necessary.

I appreciate your taking the time to respond!!

marykay,

I am glad to help, instead of upping your dose why not try some other liver

herbs, here are some others that you may incorporate into your daily use:

Bupleurum- 1/8 to 1 teaspoon of tincture three times per day or 1 cup of tea

three times per day (simmer 1 teaspoon of dried sliced root in 1 cup of water

for 10 to 15 minutes)

Dandelion root- 1 cup of tea 3 times per day (simmer 1 teaspoon of dried,

chopped root in 1 cup of water for 10 minutes)

schisandra- use up to 580 milligram capsules per day; or 1 cup of tea three

times per day (simmer 1/3 to 1 1/2 teaspoons of dried fruit in 1 cup of water

for 10 to 15 minutes) or 1/8 to 1 teaspoon of tincture or glycerite up to three

times per day.

Tumeric- 250 to 500 milligrams in capsules two to three times per day with

meals: or 1/8 to 1/2 teaspoon of tumeric tincture or glycerite (glycerin

extract) 3 times per day. Take tumeric along with pinapple to help your body

absorb it.

NOTE: some people experience gastrointestinal irritation when using tumeric. The

spice may increase hot flashes in menopausal women.

You can also try to increase your activity for the day, they say that a good

sweat will aid in the detoxifying process.

Hope this will help you even more, try and not use only one type of herbal

suppliment, try a combination of herbals that will help each other. These are a

great addition to your already good milk thistle. Above all else eat a healthy

diet rich in organic foods and whole grains, lots of fresh fruits and

vegetables.

Thank you,

Michele

Michele,

May I email you privately?

I'd like to mention specifics that may not be appropriate for the

board.

Thanks,

MaryKaye

I'm having a hard time following up this thread, but if you're trying

to detox the liver, my doctor recommends beets. I am on a supplement

since I can't stand the taste. Sorry, if I'm misunderstanding the

point of this dialog.
