The United States has signed the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) which obligates us to eliminate barriers to international trade. The Codex Alimentarius Commission (Codex) is the Trojan horse in the process of setting standards for dietary supplements that may eventually be used to force the United States to change our practices to " harmonize " with the standard adopted by Codex. The European Union (EU) is the largest bloc of countries in Codex and they have issued the EU Food Supplement Directive (EUFSD) that establishes a highly restrictive so called " positive list " of supplements that will still be allowed on the market. If this is allowed to become the new standard, it will eventually be forced on the United States through our trade agreements.(GATT via WTO ). Currently in Europe you cannot purchase adequate amounts of nutrients do good functional medicine. I have been lecturing there frequently over the past 15 years and have seen the progressive restriction of our freedom to use natural medical treatments. I am about to return to lecture and network and I will give you a fallow up when I return. Fortunately, the Alliance for Natural Health (ANH) has effectively challenged the EUFSD and has been authorized by the High Court of Justice in London, UK to proceed to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. One of the best law firms in Britain Brick Court Chambers is handling the appeal, which is the only firm to have won a case overturning one of the EU directives. They feel we have a good case. We can therefore put this issue to rest and focus on the immediate danger, that of the passage by the European congress of the very restrictive supplements regulations, which unless overturned in court will be transposed into the Global Trade Standard at Codex.
