Welcome Jay,

I'm also new to this list. Re: your question about " Nut "

From all the canine health lists I'm on, I've learned that there are

several

basic things you can do to help your dog. It would be helpful to know

if

he really has HD, but sometimes the vets are mistaken, esp. when the

dog is so very young. I had a year old Irish Wolfhound that a vet

asked

me, when are you going to bring her in for treatment of her hip

displasia?

Well, at 3 yrs, her x-rays show that she has " Excellent' hips. However

she does have a problem with her tibia.

I'm wondering if your giving this hound a 'time out' from free exercise

isn't the best thing you can be doing. Personally (I'm NO vet or

expert)

I'd start this hound on a high dosage of glucosamine/chondroitin and

some MSM. Post me if you want particulars - vistadel

as I don't know if this is off thread for this list and don't want to

clog it

further with details. IMHO the 'rest' (even 2 months) of some

confinement

-puppies do need exercise, but walking around is best, not the running

and twisting and turning - would be most beneficial as well as the

adding

of supplementation which could help as he is young enough to have the

supplements do some major good. Oops! almost forgot to mention,

I don't think extra calcium for puppies (at least for Irish Wolfhounds)

is

a good thing to do. Will research further....maybe others on this list

can give you a for sure answer to that question. Also, arthritis is

not

helped by ingestion of carbohydrates. They tend to add to inflamation

of the joints. See the bowchow site below, think it has more on this.

for info on possible therapies, I'd suggest that you join the Orthodogs

list

at - there is much excellent information there. Also

take a brief look at: http://www.bowchow.com/ click on arthritis

(I think).

Feel free to post me if you want further choices and articles.

Best of luck w/ " Nut "
