Guest guest
I know this has not been much of a forum for discussion and feedback, but my goodness---this is an important issue, and we have around 1700 members. It would be nice to see some of us responding that we have gone ahead and done what the post is asking us to do. Thanks to all, Elliot , Frank <califpacific> wrote: > > > " ladyhawkblue2 " > Wed, 16 Jun 2004 21:02:14 -0000 > [sSRI-Research] PLEASE HELP STOP SEN DURBINS AMMENDMENT ON SUPPLEMENTS > > PLEASE TAKE JUST A MINUTE AND GO TO THIS WEBSITE AND FILL IN A FORM > LETTER TO OPPOSE THIS . > > http://www.healthactioncenter.com/action/index.asp?step=2 & item=19277 > > Senator Durbin is atempting to attach an amendment requiring adverse > event reports and other restrictions to the Defense Budget bill > today. Guest guest
Hello Elliot, I have given up on most of the people who come here. Most of them do not want to put any effort in most anything including their own self education about their own medical issues and solutions. Most just want to ask someone else to do it and then tell them the secret " all natural alternative pill " to " cure " them. Oh and they don't want it to interfere with all of the other prescription stuff that they are taking. They just want something to fit in with their current array of poisons and it be non harmfull and somehow counter the side effects from their " meds " . They want a forum to to post any stream of concious idea that comes along, whether it is drug induced or not. But don't ask anything of them of much substance. So, it is not to be expected that they actually know anything, but don't restrict their right to say it. They do not want to search and do research and share it with the group. And heaven forbid, don't expect them to actually read a book. No, the majority just want someone else to do it and be on call for whatever they need to know and what pill do I take to cure my_________. They want it all one way. For them, but don't expect or ask anything of them. Now you know why I am strongly considering making this a read only list. When we hit around 500 members I considered limiting the membership and group size, but didn't want to restrict the information to people who were really sick. So we have a large bunch of people who do not want to contribute much whether in actions, help or even their own education but want everone else to contribute to them. Guest guest
I live in Senator Durbin's home state -- Illinois -- and I have just sent my 3rd email to him and my other representatives opposing his legislation. The first time was 6-8 months ago, and weeks later I got a form letter response by snail mail from Durbin that really didn't address what I had said. No other representative responded. So I've tried to do my part, but I wonder if anyone in D.C. can hear me when the pharma lobbyists have already got their ear. Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I have to say that I find this site very valuable. Although I don't contribute any information, I do sign all petitions and also contribute donations to the alliance of natural health that's fighting the supplement act in the EU, and also donate to Safe Harbor, and the wildlife refugee against Bush oil drilling in Alaska. Many people help in their own way. If everyone would band together, our voices would be heard. But EVERYONE has to make the effort in order to make a difference. Guest guest
'Lo, Brien! Ahhh, what a shame to find out that the person responsible for this idiotic bill is from Illinois, the state in which I make my home! I have sent the same letter to Senator Durbin, now. I can't help but think that Durbin and others who favor such a bill know the obvious facts, which show that supplements are 99.99% harmless, but disregard them because they are adhering to the agenda of Big Drug Companies, the AMA et al. Perhaps if we did not allow representatives to be elected year after year, decade after decade, till they retired, they would not be able to get so well-entrenched with special interest groups. David Elfstrom said something about wishing us well with our democratic efforts. It's not much of a democracy when our representatives bow down to the Big Moneyed Interest Groups... Guest guest
Dear Frank, I can understand what may give you the impression that people don't want to make the effort. Sometimes impressions are misleading, though. I doubt anyone would belong to this group unless they were serious about learning. One's email box would overflow in a few days of inattention. My computer is one year old, so it's fairly fast. It still takes a lot of time to go through the posts. I think people are silent out of politeness, and also, most people are silent by nature. Then you have others who are new and confuse this group with others that are more stream of consciousness. Additionally,I can imagine that many doctors would love to see you shut down this site. Bear in mind the diversity of people writing to you. Unless one experiences it personally, it's hard to imagine how threatened some people are by the truth. Others may come here sincerely looking for the truth but find it all a little over their heads. I appreciate the information your site has shared. Because of it, I have made some significant improvements in my lifestyle and I understand a great deal more about my body. More people are writing letters and taking action than one will ever know. In fact, you can only imagine the ripple effect of this website, but my guess is it is enormous. PS. I enjoy Elliot's comments, too. Mail is new and improved - Check it out!
