I just sent this to my congressman after receiving a reply from him

that a bill congress is going to be voting on is " only meant to make

supplements safer for the public. " Nonsense! Here is what I wrote to

him. Please feel free to copy liberally from what I wrote in

addressing your own representatives. In fact, copying the letter

verbatim from the second paragraph down would save lots of writing:

Dear Congressman ______,

We were dismayed and disheartened by your reply with regard to the

bill or bills aimed at regulating and making vitamins and

supplements " safer " for consumers.

Mr. LaHood, thousands and thousands of people die each year in this

country from prescription drugs sold by the multi-billion dollar drug

industry. But one can count on the fingers of one hand the number of

adverse reactions people have each year to vitamins or to supplements.

As far as we are concerned, and many, many more people like us, bills

such as the one congress is considering are designed to squeeze and

to control those individuals and those companies whose opinions and

approaches to healing differ from those of mainstream medicine and

big drug companies.

Many decades ago, Thomas Jefferson and another of our forefathers

urged that a portion of this country's consititution have some

phraseology guaranteeing Americans the right to practice medicine in

whatever way they chose. They envisioned that one day something just

like what is happening today in this country would occur, where one

class or type of medical practitioners would take over and control

the way medicine is practiced.

The bill on which you are soon going to vote has nothing to do

with " public safety " and everything to do with the big drug companies

and the American Medical Association increasing their power and their

profits.

If you want to truly do something for me, my wife and for millions of

other people in this country, draft and introduce a bill to congress

that will guarantee Americans the right to practice medicine as they

choose, and to have access to whatever type of medical treatment and

whatever kind of medicines they choose.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

(Moderators Note: Elliot, your messages may not have a lot of hard data, but you

do write very well. Warm, personable and entertaining and good letters to

elected politicos. Frank)
