doctors in this country might one day set up an organization meant to

monopolize and control the practice of medicine?

I thought it was Jefferson, but much searching has not turned up any

quote by him about such a phenomenon.

Does anybody know what I am talking about? If so, I would appreciate

it if you would point me to the man and to the quote and the book or

document in which it is contained.

Thank you.

I believe it was Benjamin Rush and I believe that he was one of the

signers of the U.S. constitution. F.

Thanks, Frank. That allowed me to find it. In fact, there were

several people who espoused the same thing, two of them being Rush

and Jefferson. Here is the quote:

" The idea of government control of medicine occurred to two people --

Benjamin Rush, George Washington's personal doctor and a signer of

the Declaration of Independence, and Thomas Jefferson. Benjamin Rush

warned: " Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the

time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover

dictatorship...To restrict the art of healing to one class of men and

deny equal privileges to others will constitute the Bastille of

medical science. All such laws are un-American and despotic and have

no place in a republic... "

(Moderators Note: Elliot if you will search the archives I am sure that you can

find articles on Rush and also an interesting one of how the allopathic doctors

killed George Washington. They did so many blood lettings that he died. Frank )
