How Sunscreen Can

Cause Skin Cancer:

For years we’ve been told to stay out of the sun and use sunscreen to avoid skin

cancer. But since the invention of sunscreen years ago, skin cancer rates in the

U.S. have gone up, not down. Doctors can’t explain this. Nor can they explain

why the incidence of skin cancer in tropical countries (where the sun’s rays are

the strongest) is extremely low.

The explanation is simple, though: Sunshine isn’t bad, it’s actually good for

you. Besides being our main source of vitamin D (a potent cancer-fighter),

sunshine causes your body to produce melanin, your natural protector against

skin cancer.

Melanin is the pigment responsible for turning your skin brown when you tan.

Using sunscreen blocks the production of melanin, and deprives your skin of this

protective ability. That’s why skin cancer has been on the rise in this country,

despite the wide use of sunscreen.

Now scientists have uncovered another problem. Sunscreen itself may even cause

cancer. Five chemicals commonly used in sunscreens have been found to behave

like estrogen and stimulate tumor-growth and the spread of cancer cells. (7)

(7) Want to check your sunscreens and cosmetics? The chemicals involved include

octyldimethyl-PABA (OD-PABA), benzophenone-3 (Bp-3), homosalate (HMS),

octyl-methoxycinnamate (OMC), and 4-methyl-benzylidene camphor (4-MBC).

It’ll be a while before health officials get wind of this. Even longer before

they take action. Until then, here’s a better way to protect yourself: Make your

own sunscreen from vitamin C powder (ascorbic acid). It protects the skin from

both UV-B and UV-A damage, while actually making it healthier. Simply mix the

powder, which is widely available, with water or some form of cream and apply it

to your skin. Reapply after 30 to 60 minutes.

I have olive skin & am one of those people who tans easily & rarely

burns. However, with all the skin cancer & skin wrinkle warnings

going around, I have started wearing sunscreen whenever I will be in

the sun for awhile. I now turn red & slightly burn at times. I have

even commented that it's worse when I wear sunscreen than when I go

without. This article seems to support that I'd be better off

without.

Hi hon!

YES, that's correct. I found the following portion of this article

especially interesting! If this were common knowledge, obviously the

ever-flourishing sunscreen business would soon go bankrupt.

< " Five chemicals commonly used in sunscreens have been found to

<behave <like ESTROGEN (Xenoestrogens??) and STIMULATE tumor-growth

<and the spread of cancer <cells " .

This is HEAVY!! I believe this article outlines all the dangers

unlike any other!~ I have found numerous articles to that effect

however very few of them have really came right out with the " cancer

connection " as plainly as this. So many young women are plagued with

breast cancer. The link is

obvious.

This is just another example of all the misleading statements that

we are confronted with on a daily basis! This is too ludicrous since

we now know that vitamin D ENTERS our body through the skin! When

the pores

become clogged up with chemicals it just tends to defeat the

purpose. I am including a quote from one of my webpages that helps

to explain the way it works!

" The ultraviolet rays of the sun on " exposed " skin *converts*

cholesterol to Vitamin D-3! "

I hope this particular article circulates throughout the Internet

for everyone, especially women in my estimation, need to know that

they are NOT doing themselves a favor when they slather these

chemicals all over their young bodies. Can you imagine the effect of

this when it is applied to over 2/3 of the skin and with all those

chemicals involved?

I have only used sunscreen twice since my illness and each time

afterwards I felt really faint and eventually stopped using it

altogether! Now I only use some natural oil with no added chemicals

or preservatives as a protective agent. This seems to help with the

drying effect which you mentioned that occurs with extended exposure

from family outings, etc. I really even hesitate to do this since

the main

avenue through which our cholesterol is diffused and vitamin D

enters is the porous tissue of the skin and the optical gland of the

eye.

With the use of sunscreens and sunshades, there are literally no

benefits of basking in the sunlight,at all. We are blocking the two

avenues through which these healing rays (vitamin D) enter our

bodies!

Sunlight is wonderful! To say that it CAUSES cancer is so deceitful.

Perhaps if one were repeatedly and severely burned over and over

again, it could be problematic, but in moderation on a daily basis,

to say that the sun's rays cause cancer is so deceiving!

As has been said so many times on this list, many of the things that

cause cancer are in our foods and environment, along with

stress, and the resulting malfunctioning of our bodies due to

improper diet and lack of nutritional supplementation.

If the proper nutrients are available and their immune system is

working up to par, I don't really believe anyone needs to worry

about limiting sun exposure and as in the example of Lorraine Day

even when the immune system isn't up to par it exerts its healing

effects as well.

The body stores up vitamin D over the summer for later use during

the winter months. This is why fair skinned people usually cannot

ward off virus and sickness as easily as

those who are blessed with dark sun tainned skin and breast cancer

is not as prevalent in the warmer, milder

portions of the country where there is more sun exposure.

I challenge you to read up on it. This is a fascinating

subject and the proofs do exist. This is just another area where we

need to do our own research, rather than take all the info we are

spoonfed at face value.

If I had any doubts about the healing effects of the SUN, Dr.

Lorraine Day helped to dispel them! She used sunlight to help cure

stage three breast cancer! The evidence is all there on her site!

God Bless, JoAnn
