I am saying it IS a dis-ease, and I am saying that society and also many doctors have not referred to is as such. Perhaps now that it has reached alarming and epidemic proportions, doctors and drug companies are beginning to call it a dis-ease. " The dis-ease labels come from big PHARMA, we all know that!. Whenever a new illness comes on the scene, they get another name and slap a label on it, as soon as they find a new drug that suits their purpose, that is. " That rings pretty much true. > > If the pharmaceuticals have formulated drugs for obesity, you'd > better believe that obesity is considered to be a dis-ease!! " I am sorry, Penny, but this is going WAY TOO FAR. It is impossible to swallow with an intelligent and clear conscience. Penny, if I am 170 pounds and 6 ft tall, and several months later I find that I am 190 pounds, then a few months later, 210 pounds, SHOULD I NOT BE ABLE TO SAY TO MYSELF: " HEY! I GAINED 40 POUNDS OVER THE LAST 6 MONTHS! I NEED TO TAKE MYSELF IN HAND OR I AM GOING TO TURN INTO A WHALE! " What in the world do you suppose you mean that " the blame ought to be placed squarely on the shoulders of the grocery manufacturers of America? " Are they force-feeding us or something? Is there NO blame and NO responsibility to be placed on people themselves to monitor their OWN weight? Just when is a person supposed to begin to realize he is getting too heavy? Where in the world had PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY gone? > The poisons line every store shelf, not to mention the fast food > outlets as well. > Its a setup, all neatly put in place by people who know that this > stuff promotes obesity and ill-health...causes heart attacks, > strokes, diabetes, arthritis, chronic fatigue, lupus, > MS, epilepsy, ADHD, ADD, allergies, etc... > These people are here because they have an innate desire to find a > better way. > > " We are simply the victims the way I see it and in order to reverse > this trend and lose any weight one has to break away from the whole > entire sick scenario and find their own options, which is NOT at all > easy!. " " We are simply the victims " completely abdicates any responsibility for oneself at all. IT IS EASY AS PIE to take action against weight gain. STOP EATING so much pie and other food, and start exercising. I agree that there are mountains of trashy, fatty, sugary, processed food in the grocery stores. I do NOT agree that we are " all victims " and that " the blame rests squarely on the shoulders of grocery manufacturers. " We have BRAINS, we have CONSCIENCES. We have WILLS of our own. If, as you yourself say, " Do we actually think that these people WISH to be this way? " then I ask, once a person is 20 or 30 or 50 pounds OVER his proper, normal weight, do you not suppose it is HIS responsibility to decide he has gone far enough, and at least to stop there, and start to whittle things down? Do you think it is fair, proper and logical that a person run his weight up to 350 pounds, then go whining to a lawyer that " McDonald's did this to me, " that " I am a victim of fast food and grocery manufacturers, and they owe me? " I don't think so. When I got to be 192 pounds a couple decades ago, and had a 30 pound gut, I said to myself " enough is enough. " I went to a dietician, who said, " When you eat meat, make it more of a condiment, and if you need to " pig out, " pig out on vegetables. And get regular exercise about 20 to 30 minutes a day. I did what she said, and in about 5 months, I was back to 165 pounds. I did not allow myself to balloon up to 200, 220, 240, 300 pounds and to complain about being " victimized. " Best wishes, Elliot Dear Elliot, The onus should be on the person to take responsibility for there own health if the field is somewhat level and the person has some real options in information and alternative choices, which has not been the case for the majority of people in the USA for a very long time. With each passing year there seem to be less choices but thank God for the internet they now have a venue to obtain real information rather than corporate dominated and government endorsed spin and bullshit. We have been lied to by the large corporation, by our governments, by our politicians, by our information resources and disimination, by our research dollars spent to promote false information to benefit corporations, etc. for many many years. They owned and / or controlled the sytem of regulation, research, government, politicians, the major media channels, what was taught in our educational institutions, the channels of commerce, monopolozing the ways of production, distribution, maketing, etc. And when the average person who is trying to earn a living and support his/her family comes up against all that they are supposed to somehow overcome all of that arayed against them and know intuitively all the right answers and to take control over their own eating, health, knowledge, shift through all of the lies, spin, propaganda, etc. and to somehow " be responsible " for them selves is the biggest bunch of hogwash ever perpetrated (sp) on the western mind. It is like an army of millions against one lonely peasant who is trying to work his fields. The average person who tries to find out what is happening to their bodies whether in weight or health is starting on a long and ardueous journey to find out the " truth " let alone impliment it and try and survive in world inundated in unhealthy foods, unhealthy information, unhealthy advice and unhealthy medical treatments. That is a little like blaming all the victums for dieing in medical care becausee they should have taken responsibility for their own health and should have known not to trust the doctors and the medical industry. The governments have most of the power and have been corrupted to special interests and when you couple that with massive money and power of the corporations, major media, etc. the average person has had about a snowballs chance in hell of opposing all of that. Before the advent of the internet it was even less. That old saw " they should take responsibility " BS is usually served up by the ones that damaged a lot of someone elses and now want no part of the responsibility and so put forth the weak brained argumant that they should now be " responsible for themselves " . How come that argument only comes up when large interests are at stake that need protecting? In fact when I hear that phrase, I automatically think, well here comes one of the greatest bullshit deals ever put over on mankind. They take an obvious truth like " people should be responsible for their own actions and then couple that with whatever bit of spin du jour and shift the blame from the guilty to the victum. That same bullshit has been used to protect not only the food industry but the allopathic health industry, the tobacco industry, the pharmacuetical industry, the bad politician industry, etc. Hell that piece of illogic has been used to bamboozle the great unwashed for over a century now and most people never wise up to what it is, so they have sure got their moneys worth to the guy who thought it up. It is a catch phrase not a valid indepth look. When they give out the truth about things and not spin so that people can be informed, and when they can have real choices not dictated by monopolistic interests in foods, health care, etc. then and only then will it be solely the responsibility of each of us to take resposiblity for our own existence and have some meaning. The " truth " today as given out by 99% of our society is only a badly mangled and corrupted truth form of truth to benefit some economic interest to our personal detriment. Lieing to misrepresent things in order to get money from someone is called fraud and is a crime. When they do it in concert it is called a conspiacy and a continuing criminal enterprise. Instaed if done by high powers we get. Well hell if they were stupid enough to believe our bullshit they deserve what they get, in fact the more I think about it, I think it is completely their fault for believing us anyway. We go to school and we learn bullshit, we go to our government for protection and information and we get bullshit, we seek help from health professionals and we get bullshit. We tune into any major media and we get more bullshit. We are inundated daily in our lives will institutionalized bullshit and some how it is our fault wwhen we believe them. Hell if I tried that scam I would be put in prison for fraud but if it is institionalized and governmentized by big business and government supported then the robber barons get away with it. The con man in the street gets put into jail for trying to take someone else's money that way and for those kind of actions, so why do we condone it for big business and our government? my 2 cents, Frank Friends.
