Guest guest
I went to the supermarket/grocery store tonight to use their copier to copy some information for my next door neighbor, who had to go to the hospital for an attack of diverticulitis this past Monday. When I got to that grocery store, I noticed, maybe for the first time, that the first thing one notices when entering the parking lot is two big signs advertising Rx's---that is that the store sells pharmaceuticals---NOT anything about groceries. Then, when I walked into the store, it hit me that my diverticulitic neighbor, the signs in the lot, the groceries in that store and the fact that they have a thriving pharmacy are all part of one big, sad, nasty merry-go-round. I gave my neighbor the information from " Balch & Balch Prescription For Nutritional Healing, " and I told him it said he would need to give up meat. I'm sure he thought I was crazy, or at least I am sure he thought " nothing doing! " Sad thing, too, is that his wife smokes, even after she had a stint put in one of her arteries. And sad that she can't afford to pay her hospital bills, so that the household is getting calls from lawyers and collection agencies. Balch and Balch says that along with bad diet, diverticulitis is a " classic " stress-related dis-ease. What is more, they say that smoking aggravates the condition. My neighbor does not smoke himself, but he surely does breathe his wife's smoke. I fear my neighbor will have an operation, a colostomy and a resection before too long. The operation is said to be successful in 80% of cases. Maybe everybody will be happy with that. The hospital, the doctors, the insurance company and my neighbor, who will be able to continue to eat a rotten diet. Used to be, when I was a youngun, the only place one could get prescription drugs was at a pharmacy, or " drug store, " and there weren't all that many of them around. That was in the '50's. Now it has become a question of what kind of sales establishment will be selling prescriptions next. Not long ago, here in Illinois, they passed a law allowing gas station " convenience " stores to sell hard liquor. Maybe they will be next to sell prescription drugs. When I go to buy produce at Sam's Club, they have a whole big counter devoted solely to tobacco products. Often, when I walk past that counter, I ask the ignorant girl or boy standing behind it to " assist " buyers of that ROT, " Do you sell chemotherapy here, too? " They reply " no, " or shake their head. " Why not? " I ask... It is just disgusting and infuriating that the wealthy tobacco bosses, whose companies rake in billions each year, are screened off and safe from the public, while ignorant, uncaring kids are the ones selling their murderous product to the public. I love living out here in the wide open, big sky farm country of Illinois, but the absolute ignorance of the average Joe or Jane out here about how to take care of their health and their bodies is appalling. The tobacco and the processed food moguls know what kind of poisonous, killing trash they're profiting from. Anyone ever hear the TRUE story about the tobacco executive who didn't know he was replying to a reporter when he was asked, " Do you smoke cigarettes? " and he replied, " Ha! Of course not! We reserve that " right " for the poor, the black and the stupid! " Aaack! Phooey! Bleech! Over and out, Elliot
