Guest guest
Ok, I am having a lot of crap happen in my life lately, and I am trying to get off of my prescription antidepressant. I was on Effexor XR 300mg daily, and I am now down to 37.5mg daily. Anyone have any recommendations (other than Valerian Root) for dealing with stress? I don't know if I want to do St. John's Wort...and I can't do Kava. I'm up for suggestions!!!! Cheryl

MSM is good for keeping moods on an even keel, and works even when stress levels are extremely high. Including more essential fatty acids in both supplemental form and diet will also help. cold water fish is a good source of n-3s. All the B-Complex vitamins and extra magnesium are needed for this. There was a post just recently on the effect of certain B vitamins and how they impact (benefit)our nervous system. Optimum amounts of B-6 and niacin are necessary as well. Guest guest
Dear Cheyrl, If you will go to our home page and do a search of articles/messages in our archives (20,000+) you will find hundreds of articles about antidepressants and other psychotropic meds. Also go to our links page and there are a lot of links about how to get off safely and other information and support groups, etc. Education is the best advice that I can give you. There is no one " pill that is going to be the answer to getting off. It is important though that you understand that it is very important to go slowly in reducing the dosage. It must be done in steps over time and to let the body downregulate and adjust at each step. It may seem like everything is going well so the person keeps cutting , but it takes some time for the drug to get low in the bloodstream and eventually the brain. If the person goes too fast and that happens, the repurcussion at can be severe. To go to our home page just at the bottom of each message. At the home page you will find links to our links page and also you will see a search box to search the archives. Please educate yourself about this drug and how to taper so that you do not have problems and also the nutrients, herbs and homeopathics that you can try also. Also, our message boards have a few articles about these type drugs, etc. A link to them is also at the bottom of every message from the group. regards, Frank , CherylLGrice@c... wrote: > Ok, I am having a lot of crap happen in my life lately, and I am trying to > get off of my prescription antidepressant. Guest guest
Cheryl, I use passion flower extract, 3 times a day (a dropper full at a time) for my post traumatic stress disorder. It makes a big difference in symptoms, but I find that I need to take it consistently. Passion flower can make you drowsy, so get familiar with your body's reaction before you decide whether you can drive after taking it. I am able to drive with no problem, unless I take the pill form insted of tincture. As far as I know from my own reading, there are no side effects or toxicity. Of course, you would want to check that out yourself for any herb.
