Guest guest
Dear Group, I have a friend who is a very knowledgable graduate level chemist. I was saying to her that I have read up on the pathway that changes tryptophan to niacin or either serotonin/melatonin but that niacin helped me to sleep and that I had not read anything about niacin being able to be converted to the serotonin/melatonin route. This is what she sent to me. Wow, it sure clears everything up for me. How about you? __________________ Frank, I am sending two links to the pathways. One is tryptophan and one is nicotinamide. The numbers in the boxes are the enzymes used to catalyze one chemical to the next. It is a little busy and technical but I hope you can get the gist of how the two are inter-related. http://www.genome.ad.jp/kegg/pathway/map/map00380.html http://www.genome.ad.jp/kegg/pathway/map/map00760.html _______ Now, I need to get back with her and ask her to be my interpreter. I guess read up on means different things to different people. Frank SBC - Internet access at a great low price.
Guest guest
LOL!! That sure is an amazing flow chart. Clear as a bell now. LOL!! What is does show to a layman is how incredibly complicated biologically/chemicaly we all are. Harry ( also how important all those enzymes are when needed at each step to proceed.
