WASHINGTON, April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- SafeMinds -- America's leadingscientific

organization investigating the risks that mercury-containingmedical products

pose to our children-expressed cautious optimism over arecent report (April

2004) from the California Department of DevelopmentalServices (DDS) that showed,

for the first time in 20 years, a decrease in newrequests for autism related

services for two consecutive quarters. " Thisinformation does give us hope, but

we will monitor future data to be sure thisis in fact a real trend downward

versus a one-time anomaly. For now, autismremains an epidemic that must be

Thimerosal is a mercury-laden preservative that has been used in manyvaccines

out of some childhood vaccines, children are still at riskof exposure through
