Guest guest
Holger, Singing or vocalizing tones resonate or communicate, the Chinese perceived, the sounds of heaven ( like birds flying and singing above). Yes, as a form of communication, but also a connection to the " Qi " of Nature. They saw music as a direct line to " above " and when the music or singing was harmonious and pleasant, the people of the village would be healthy, full of life, in flow with nature. If discord and " out of tune " (much like a lot of modern music and even some religious music) the people would suffer lawlessness and illness. With this in mind they would tune their instruments to play and sing in tune with each other by rule of the Emperor in all of China. This meant each season had a specific tone and the key for singing and playing changed as the seasons did (i.e. D# for winter, A# for spring ect). There is a diagnostic/treatment method by Sherry Edwards where she uses the voice to determine a " missing note " . I personally don't by the program she offers but there is some validity in the concept. The healing sounds (i.e. Woooooo for Kidney) in some Qigong systems are used to regain function a enhance health and well being in meditation practice. I have a Chorus that uses the healing sounds and tones for treatment (The Acutone Chorus) that uses the tones literally to treat patients (there is a link at the Acutone web site if you are interested). The relationship to songs is unique. Cultural/social music may have a healing affect on a whole country as a way of uniting a group and enforcing its objectives, direction, and beliefs. This is quite a big topic but if you are interested in some work of a colleague of mine, Don Campbell, he has some interesting " Music Therapy " using Mozart's music (aka the Mozart affect). You can contact me on some more specific questions regarding these issues as there is a lot to cover in a complete explanation. Let me know your interests and I will help you where I can. Hummmm (G# for fall/ Chinese Metal tone) Dean Lloyd Holger Wendt <holger.wendt wrote: Welcome Dean! I always have thought a great musical experience can keep me well and balanced and healed for a period of time. Can one heal by singing? Songs, or tunes? and if so could you give an example? Warm regards, Holger Wendt _______________ I am available for questions regarding TCM and sound healing. I can provide this group with some of the most up to date data regarding the testing on subjects with frequencies (i.e. Delta Brain wave A and B) and the affects. Also, personal experiences and references to Acupuncture theory and Sound (i.e it's origin and physics/mathematics). The sound or tones preceded acupuncture and I make a direct connection to the Ba Gua (Prenatal and Post Natal Gua) coming from a musical scale for example. I enjoy answering questions and I look forward to this interaction among practitioners. Stay in Tune! Dean Lloyd

Guest guest
Alon, If Mozart's or Bach's music can be " shown " to have no special effect, I am both amused and heartened. That means we need not consider double blind studies for anything as ineffable as Chinese medicine. Whew! Sorry, my friend. I just has to flip up my side of the coin on this one. Hope you'll forgive me.
