Eczema Creams Finally Merit Cancer Labeling

The FDA has announced that two prescription eczema creams will need to

bear " black box " warnings of possible cancer risks. The creams, Elidel

and Protopic, are now recommended for use only after other

prescription medications have failed.

There have been nearly 80 reported cases of cancer in patients treated

with the two drugs. Novartis Pharmaceuticals, which manufactures

Elidel, announced that it is still confident in the safety and

efficacy of Elidel.

In addition to the reported cancer cases, animal tests show an

increase in cancer risk associated with the drugs.

Dr. Mercola's Comment:

These two popular prescription skin screams for treating eczema were

linked to increased risks of certain cancers close to a year ago. It

certainly took the FDA long enough to finally get around to requiring

black box cancer warnings on both drugs.

Folks, given the risks, it is beyond ludicrous to use these creams in

the first place, especially when there are many safer dietary

solutions -- that treat real cause of the problem.

If you suffer from eczema please consider the following highly

effective strategies:

* Stop eating all wheat products.

* Use gamma linolenic acid, one of the few good omega-6 fats, as a

supplement.

* Make the switch from pasteurized milk to raw milk, especially if

you're a mother who is breastfeeding. If you are unable to locate raw

milk you would likely best be served by avoiding dairy completely to

determine if that is the cause of the eczema.

* Take a high quality fish or cod liver oil daily.

* Get plenty of healthy sun exposure every day possible on exposed

skin (see link below).

* Start a high quality probiotic (see link below)
