I found this site that talks about the origins, but does not list the

eight herbs http://essiac-info.org/sumeria3.html

My original exposure to the Essiac herbs was through a healing

discipline I have learned - Natural Healing -

http://www.nhseminars.com - where the energy from the original Essiac

tea - Flor Essence - is used. It is by looking up Flor Essence that I

find the full list of the 8 herbs.

Rene Caisse was a Canadian nurse who made the Ojibwa Tea Formula world-famous. Many companies sell versions of the original Ojibwa Formulas, including Essiac and Flor*Essence. The TerraVita Ojibwa Original 4-Herb Formula is made of only the highest quality herbs with no added fillers, colors or sweeteners. Our blend is comprised of the following herbs:Burdock Root (Arctium Lappa) - 50 PartsSheep's Sorrel (Rumex Acetosella) - 30 PartsSlippery Elm Bark (Ulmus Fulva) - 5 PartsTurkey Rhubarb (Rheum Palmatum) - 5 PartsKelp (Fucus vesiculosis) - 5 PartsBlessed Thistle (Cnicus benedictus) - 2 PartsRed Clover (Trifolium pratense) - 2 PartsWaterCress (Nasturtium officinale) - 1 Part

Re: Re: Essiac Tea (Recipe)

Hi Kat, when I first got hold of the Essiac Tea recipe ten years ago it wassupposedly the original recipe and there was no mention of the later fouringredients you mention. Do you have a website where it verifies these otheringredients. Here is what I have."The Essiac Herb BookCanada's Amazing Ojibway Herbal Remedy"The Shaman's GiftBuilds the Immune SystemDetoxifies The BodyRemoves Heavy MetalsRestores Energy Levels(The name Essiac is Rene Caisse's last name spelled backwards.)Rene Caisse was a nurse in Canada. In 1923 she learned from one ofher doctor's patients, of a herbal remedy used by the OjibwayIndians. Rene found that the woman had obtained this herba tea remedyfrom a tribal shaman. Rene visited the medicine man, and he gladlyand freely presented her with his tribe's formula. He explained thatthe Ojibway used their herbal remedy for both spiritual balance andbody rejuvenation. The formula consisted of four common herbs. Theywere blended and cooked in a fashion which caused the concoction tohave greater curative power than any of the four herbs themselves. The four herbs were Sheep Sorrel, Burdock Root, Slippery Elm Bark, and Rhubarb Root. The original formula, as given by Rene Caisse, islisted below. We are reprinting here her exact instructions for a twogallon batch, although you would probably not need such a largeamount at one time.Ingredients:52 parts: Burdock Root (cut or dried) (parts by weight)16 parts: Sheep Sorrel (powdered)1 part: Turkey Rhubarb (powdered) or 2 parts domestic Rhubarb4 parts: Slippery Elm (powdered)This is the basic four herb formula which was presented to the RoyalCancer Commission in 1937 and was found by them to be "a cure forcancer". Later in her life, while working with Dr. Charles Brusch inMassachusetts, Rene added small potentizing amounts of four otherherbs to her basic four herb formula. As provided to us by a womanwho worked with Rene, and was given the formula by Rene, these extrafour herbs were added as follows: Kelp (2 parts), Red Clover (1part), Blessed Thistle (1 part), Watercress (0.4 parts). We considerthe addition of these four extra herbs optional.Supplies Needed:4 gallon stainless steel pot with lid 3 gallon stainless steel potwith lid Stainless steel fine mesh double strainer, funnel & spatula12 or more 16 oz. sterilized amber glass bottles with airtight caps,or suitable substitutes.Preparation:l. Mix dry ingredients thoroughly. Place herbs in a plastic bag andshake vigorously. Herbs are light sensitive; keep stored in a cooldark place.2. Bring 2 gallons of sodium free distilled water to a rolling boilin the 4 gallon pot (with lid on). Should take approximately 30minutes at sea level.3. Stir in 1 cup of dry ingredients. Replace lid and continue to boilfor 10 minutes.4. Turn off stove. Scrape down the sides of the pot with the spatulaand stir mixture thoroughly. Replace the lid.5. Allow the pot to remain closed for 12 hours. Then turn the stoveto the highest setting and heat to almost a boil (approximately 20minutes). Do not let boil.6. Turn off the stove. Strain the liquid into the 3 gallon pot. Cleanthe 4 gallon pot and strainer. Then strain the filtered liquid backinto the 4 gallon pot.7. Use the funnel to pour the hot liquid into sterilized bottlesimmediately, and tighten the caps. After the bottles have cooled, retighten the caps.8. Refrigerate. Rene's herbal drink contains no preservative agents. If mold should develop, discard the bottle immediately.Caution: All bottles and caps must be sterilized after use if youplan to reuse them for Essiac. Bottle caps must be washed and rinsedthoroughly, and may be cleaned with a 3% solution of food gradehydrogen peroxide (may be purchased in health food stores). To make a3% solution, mix 1 ounce of 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide with 11ounces of sodium free distilled water. Let soak for 5 minutes, rinseand dry. If food grade hydrogen peroxide is not available, use onehalf teaspoon of Clorox to one gallon of distilled water.Instructions for Use1. Keep refrigerated.2. Shake bottle well before using.3. May be taken either cold from the bottle, or warmed (nevermicrowave).4. As a Preventative, daily take 4 tablespoons (2 ounces) at bedtimeor on an empty stomach at least 2 hours after eating.Note:a. Some people may prefer to dilute the herbal drink with an equalamount of sodium free distilled water. b. Many people have reportedthat Rene's drink works well to detoxify the body, and have taken itas a detoxification program.Precaution: Some doctors advise against taking the herbal formulawhile pregnant.Recommendation: Rene reported that the twelve hour brewing process isessential for Essiac to have its special powers. Essiac is beingoffered to the public in pills, teabags, and homeopathic drops. We donot recommend them. They may work, but they are not what Rene Caisseused, nor have we seen evidence that they work.REad http://www.praxea.com/index.htm----- Original Message -----"Ingrid Mager-Renault" <wolfiebearTuesday, January 31, 2006 1:19 AMRe: Re: Essiac Te <Kat>>> Kat,Do you have the proportiolns for this.I want to make it but keep the kelp out, because I am mercury toxic. Thanks,Inga>>>> If I were you I would buy the Flor Essence rather than another brand> of Essiac - it is the only one I know of that has the 8 original> ingredients of Essiac, rather than just four. How long does one take / drink the essiac tea? I think I have read two weeks, but is it ok to drink the tea indefinitely? Is this a method to de-toxify the body or is it for boosting the immune system? I have been drinking it for about 4 days and my shoulder pain seems to be easing. lainey Harvey Flatbush <harvf wrote: Hi Kat, when I first got hold of the Essiac Tea recipe ten years ago it wassupposedly the original recipe and there was no mention of the later fouringredients you mention.
