have been educated, under the auspices of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), about health, safety, and environmental issues in the workplace. Trainers will use the knowledge they acquired to further strengthen local capacity to address occupational health, safety, and environmental issues. A major survey is under way to unravel the health and environmental impacts of nickel mining and smelting on the Pacific island of New Caledonia.
