Guest guest
I'am going to copy something from a new thread at the Hyperacusis Board, for someone if anybody knows anything, just write back on the list, and I'll get the information and paste it back to him on the board. Thanks, Janice. (Taken from the board at www.hyperaucis.net) This is from a new member named Raylee, who's 53. Hi everyone, I am very glad this board is here. I had no idea there was just one for hyperacusis. I have read many of the posts here. I was diagnosed with Menieres two years ago, but currently am not having any more " drop " attacks, thank God. I do still have tinnitis and buzzing and vibrating sounds in my head/ears, hard to tell if the head or the ears. Also strange sounds at night. At night before I fall asleep, right at the point of nodding off, I feel or hear an " explosion " sound like a POP, BANG, can't explain it. It makes me jerk and then I feel like I am falling or going over a hill on a rollercoaster, just momentarily. My stomach cherns and I feel nauseous. This is just momentary but happens about every 20 seconds. It makes it hard to sleep. also cracking, popping, clicking intermittently. And, my hearing goes in and out sometimes. I am so sensitive to sounds that maybe I am hearing all the normal noises inside my head amplified. It is very distresssing and makes for a horrible night's sleep. Sometimes the " sounds " in my head will wake me up. I was very ill and dissabled from work at my worst with what they called Menieres syndrome for 3 months. I developed many other symptoms stemming from the original " drop " attacks, where I would just feel pulled to the ground and also some " spinning vertigo attacks " . Of course medicines did nothing so now I just stick to a strict whole foods diet; no dairy, eggs, etc. Low salt. This controlled the worst of the Menieres. But the tinnnitis and hyperacusis lives on. Some days my entire had vibrates and it makes me nauseated and feel out of it. Weather also seems to affect my symptoms. The sleep thing is the hardest thing. Some nights I do not even want to go to bed, as when I lay my head down, the sounds and feelings of false motion begin. Some times I will just sleep sitting up with the lights on it gets so bad. Anyways, maybe some of you have had similar symptoms. What is the treatment for hyperacusis besidse white/pink noise. I do sleep with an fan/air purifier on at night which masks out the high pitched constant tinnitis that is 24/7 but does nothing for the intermittent lound BANGS, POPS, EXPLOSION, GUNSHOT type sounds. I do work with headphones on my ears all day typing medical reports of doctor's dictations. Some days I can barely work. I have to stuff cotton in by " bad ear " to muffle the sounds of the doctors voices, which some, especially the high pitches voices, can be so irritating. My nerves feel fried and I have horrible head vibration when I am through with my shift. Also I have to wear cotton in that right ear all day when I go out shopping, etc. or the noises just really bother me and it makes me feel physically ill. Thanks for any imput. I wish there was an MD that knew about this here in her Phoenix, AZ area. Anybody know of any? Guest guest
I am a 63 year old lady that has had Meniere's for over 35 years. I find that by avoiding caffiene, salt, and handling stress, my attacks aren't near as frequent as when they first hit. I have been to 5 ear " specialists " . The last one told me he couldn't do a thing for me, that I had better pray that it doesn't go into the other ear, and " by the way, he would like my head when I die, so that he can " study it " . I was so angry. He had promised to help me and let me have another hearing test for $200, which I had to pay for, and could not afford, just to have him tell me that it was not treatable and learn to live with it.
