Guest guest
Tour, Katrina and Domes for the World Dome Tour to Help Benefit Katrina Survivors The 5th Annual Monolithic Dome Tour is less than one month away. In light of recent events in the Gulf Region, Monolithic is dedicating the 2005 Monolithic Dome Home Tour to the survivors of this devastation. Voluntary cash donations will be accepted at MDI headquarters with all proceeds going to the American Red Cross. We encourage all dome tour participants who have not yet decided on a charity to be affiliated with, to consider collecting donations for the American Red Cross. Funds are urgently needed now and will be needed far into the future. http://www.monolithic.com/dometour/index.html The superdome is a marvelous structure. Nothing can take that away from it. However, it was not designed to withstand a category 4 or 5 hurricane, like Hurricane Katrina. It stood up considerably well considering the abuse it took. What do we need to have on hand? How do we store emergency supplies for our families? We all have emergencies in our lives, hopefully not as devastating as a hurricane. However, David B. South shares insight into being prepared and how being prepared for anything will always benefit us -- no matter the disaster. http://www.monolithic.com/disaster_resistance/hurricanes/index.html How would a Monolithic Dome stand up in the face of a hurricane like Katrina? We expect to hear more from Monlithic Dome owners as communication lines are restored. http://www.monolithic.com/dometour/index.html The September Workshop is next week September 13-17th. We currently have 30+ students registered to attend. We are willing to enroll more students in this session; however, we recommend that you look towards October if you are interested in attending a workshop during 2005. The October workshop is scheduled for October 11-15th. The fee for the workshop is $975.00 per person. The fee includes five days of instruction and training with experienced dome builders. For other workshop dates and registration: http://www.monolithic.com/workshops/ How can I help -- long term? In the larger view of raising awareness about Monolithic Domes and how they can benefit communities worldwide we would encourage willing donors to contribute to Domes for the World Foundation (DFTW), a not-for-profit established by Monolithic, Inc.. Domes for the World was established in June 2005 and has been accepted as part of the National Heritage Foundation. DFTW is a nonprofit 502©(3), 509(a)(1) and shares it federal tax status. Plans for the future include promoting practical, affordable and safe housing in developing nations. We will initiate and coordinate efforts to alleviate housing shortcomings in struggling cultures and impoverished lands. Much of the world's housing problems are solved by utilizing Monolithic Dome construction technology. Grants, sponsors, endorsements, spokespersons and/or endowments must be found to make that dream a reality.
