Guest guest
Hi All Would like some input on cutting down/eliminating salt for hypertension. I've heard pros and cons. Thoughts? Much appreciated Bea
Guest guest
Bea-- .....again, i'm no doc, but here is what i've learned---from my own concerns and reading about salt and hypertension, that might give you some "direction" with your own personal salt useage...... .....ALL processed foods are HIGH in salt/sodium, so, eating more naturally would be a good thing to do...... "cardboard pizzas," the "Hungry-Man" type dinners, boxed convenience rices, noodles, "helper" dinners (et.Al.), crackers, chips, fast food and restaurants all have loads of sodium in them..... .....you might consider using more spices and herbs to flavor your food, instead of depending on salt as the main seasoning (but that's hard to do, when yer hungry for something "salty," isn't it?) .....hypertension, from what i've learned, is due to several factors---- AGE HEREDITY WEIGHT control (or lack of) DIET ALLERGY to sodium/salt, like some are allergic to cayenne and other peppers .....i know that salt--or sodium, in some way, is necessary, for the function of blood flow in arteries, but, that's all i know about that....don't know the "how's and why's" however....... maybe someone more Knowledgeable in that area can share more info with us...... .....hope what little i know about this can help you in some way... 3f Bea Bernhausen <beabernhausen wrote: Hi All Would like some input on cutting down/eliminating salt for hypertension. Guest guest
My two cents worth: My son was a premee. He had heart and lung issues and was put on a low salt diet. I figured, good plan, go low salt and proceeded for the next 24 years to severely curtail my salt intake. Well, three years ago my daughter had some major health issues (relating to almost universal allergies). After getting her allergies cleared, I went to an alternative health care provider who uses reflex muscle testing. I was severely depleted in salt. In fact, my body was asking for two teaspoons of salt a day. For about a month I had to take in that much salt to replete my body. The problem with salt in our diet though, is not the KIND of salt most people eat. Regular table salt has been super heated, been bleached to make it pure white, had chemicals added to prevent caking...in other words the salt used in processed foods, and even regular table salt is not really the salt your body wants. Sea salt, Real Salt or Celtic Sea Salt would be much, much better for you. Anyway, turning back to the hypertension, I believe it is much more closely related to dehydration than it is to salt intake. If you're dehydrated your blood cannot help but be thicker, and if your blood is thicker, then the heart must pump harder to push it through your blood vessels.
