There has been a growing awareness of the effect of foods on the behaviors of all humans in the last 30 years. Several of the major countries have expended considerable funds and energies investigating the issues that food quality, quantity and additives present in prisoner behavior programs. Indeed, English studies show that up to 75% of mental health patients with specific, drug treated diseases such as schizophrenia may well suffer from tobacco allergies. As one psychologist asked pensively - and what is the most common smell inside a ward? Second hand cigarette smoke! It might be helpful if the reader understands the effects of chronic allergies on the sufferer. It is not hay fever, sinus or other ‘buzz word’ conditions a majority ‘suffer’. It is a potentially life threatening ‘illness’ that many people discredit for validity. Too often the theory of ‘a little won’t hurt, surely?’ is enough to cause catastrophic effects in the suffer, particularly if it is ingested or inhaled without warning. The Effects of environmental allergies - inhaled:These substances, such as pollens, dust, dust mite, mold, perfumes, chemical fumes (and others) are inhaled and taken directly to the brain through the lungs which conduct and forward oxygen. The effect is an immediate release of ‘histamine’ and then, in response, a charge of adrenalin to counter the potentially deadly histamine. The ‘Popeye Effect’.This is not only sudden and can occur in any situation, they produce unexpected effects in the sufferer. Anyone that has had a sudden ‘fright’ that caused them to tingle and the adrenalin rush to hit them knows the sudden ‘light up effect’. Image that conducting itself without control through the sufferer and anything unexpected may trigger an instinctive defensive response/reaction over and above the response that might be required. This may manifest in violent reaction to non violent confrontation, complete emotional instability resulting in undue hysterical reactions to seemingly normal situations, resistance or defiance in the face of rationality, and other out of character traits. When the sufferer is unaware of the ‘creeping effects’ of prolonged exposure to a particular tree or scent or any other antagonistic substance, their entire perception array is compromised and can result in manic response or even suicidal thoughts to escape the draining side effects of being constantly ‘overly alert’ or ‘fearful’. When the onlooker is unaware of the symptoms, they can often be mistaken for extremely alarming mental health issues. Undiagnosed and left to reign, they can result in confinement without due cause, and the deprivation of a relatively normal life if due care is not paid to the removal or avoidance of the known allergy cause. Foods and how we relate to the world.Without delving into the controversial and alarming world of artificial colors, flavors and preservatives, this article seeks to instruct the unaware of the false truths and lies that are fed to the consumer of food products, based solely on the array of ‘politically correct, healthy choice foods’ we ‘enjoy’ culturally. The ingested allergy source produces a similar effect - in slow release format. This is often compounded with the following side effects that significantly dull the effect of the adrenalin rush. These are:Unexpected, unwarranted tiredness without warningFaintness or fainting spells, increasingly debilitating to the sufferers confidenceVision impairment, often increasingly debilitating to the sufferers lifestyle and confidencePhysical illness, vomiting and nausea without good causeChronic cramping, muscle twitching or unexplained aches, increasingly debilitating the sufferer without good causeVery low thresholds of tolerance or confrontation Increasingly depleted objectivity, or increasingly aggressive defense of selfHigh/low blood pressureMore easily bruised, and more significant bruisingHighly emotional or seemingly unsettled emotionallyIncreasingly incapable of focus or direction independently and;Increasingly resistant to direction externally.Known individual effects in adults and children include:The deliberate provocation of sibling conflictFire lightingStealing, at home and from other sourcesDefiance in school or at workViolent tendency or outbursts, physically or verballyMisuse of other drugs or medications Misuse/abuse of property/public property/personal possessionsJeckle/Hyde personality switchesLack of focus, or empathy to a situation (i.e., misplaced amusement/anger)Lack of personal organization, or ability to prioritizeCutting up material or paper, or ripping of paperFixations for certain scents or foods, or abnormal revolution to themUnusually difficult in general self, including sociallyDeliberately argumentative to a socially debilitating levelSuicidal threats, rather than tendencies (rather than attempts)Deliberately cruel emotional responses, without real provocationKnown loss of ‘self control’ in adults perception to:Rights - of self and others, including a disregard for or ‘who cares attitude’Adherence to lawful actions - (see misuse of drugs as example) willfullyLowering of work standards or at home standards, without seeming to careRefusal to be reasoned with over external perceived issues with othersRational self is increasingly compromised. The sufferer who is undiagnosed is often unaware of the altered perceptions and is preoccupied with the inexplicable physical symptoms and in there lays many issues with the diagnosis being completed early. The majority of these types of extended allergy reactions are caused by foods so common as to be ignored except when they cause anaphylactic reactions or are so debilitating that desperation turns a medicos mind to other less obvious connectors. Commonly, prior to diagnosis, the sufferer is advised to ‘get more exercise’ or to ‘eat a healthier diet’ and thus, in doing so simply enhances the allergy exposure and symptoms. Because these effects can take between instantly and 3 days to fully set in, it is often difficult to ascertain what food might be causing issues and in many instances - it is not realized that very small amounts found in many different foods accumulates and becomes a much large portion. This is true of soy allergies. Soy derivatives are used in thickeners and emulsifiers. Most bread contains the flour of soy beans. And soy based emulsifiers. Most premix bread mixes contain soy flours. Many people replace dairy milk with soy milk only to find it doesn’t help, it makes things much worse because milk was not the real problem. Egg, peanut and sesame are all ingredients that infect machinery in traces that can literally kill an individual with a severe allergy. The traces of these found in products unrelated by cross contamination of machinery during production is often enough to trigger lingering but inexplicit ‘off color’ feelings which are often taken as symptoms of stress or over work and compensated by binge eating or vitamin supplements. Neither is a suitable replacement for the knowledge of which foods contribute to the perpetuation of the allergy. The High’s and Low’s of food allergies and addictions. It is sometimes joked that women head for chocolate when they are upset. It would be unfortunate for that to occur if she were to be dairy or soy sensitive. Indeed, the reaction from both these could contribute to an ongoing and unconscious emotional vs. reality battle for the sufferer who becomes affected, unknowingly while already affected by the effects of the allergy source.Remembering the ‘adrenalin’ effect and the known ‘adrenalin junkie syndrome’, it becomes far easier to understand obesity and depression. It becomes all the more clear that in many instances, the mental health world would be better advised to have skin tests done to assure themselves that the patient is not under the influence of an ongoing and often life altering food ‘addiction’ caused by their body’s sensitivity and reaction. With that in mind - it is then easier to understand the effect on the mental and emotional stability of the sufferer when in ‘withdrawal’ from the offending food source. The more ‘common’ the source, the more difficult the sufferer may find the exercise. In the instance of soy intolerance or chicken intolerance, the non sufferer needs to understand the significance of the effect. The effect cause the human body to produce an ongoing stream of the addictive, naturally occurring drug, adrenalin. This comes on the direct end of a sudden ‘downer’ which is the histamine countering the ‘invading bad allergy source’ - and becomes expected by the sufferer as a normal part of life. Soy is not as obviously ‘there’ as chicken might be for instance. Chicken is in every takeaway box, and KFC appears on each corner of the western world. Soy is hidden in the bread roll or donut or many commercial sauces. When the sufferer becomes aware of the source of the problem and attempts to remove the offending food, the main issue becomes the elimination - and the more common the more difficult. This has a significant affect on the mental status of the sufferer who becomes fixated on not returning to the altered state, and thus the non sufferer will find resistance to the introduction of unknown foods to ‘replace’ the lost ones. This is a delicate process because the objective after diagnosis is not to suddenly replace one known allergy source with another unknown potential source and the individual who is feeling better by the day will usually show great reluctance to try new foods until they have established their own new comfort food list. It is important that the non sufferer make allowances for this because it is a major emotional and mental shift in perspective once ones food consumption not only becomes limited but is limited by sheer physical need for good health. Many non sufferers do not realize that the more foods and the more common those foods the sufferer must avoid, the more likely the sufferer is to find cross contamination. This is also particularly true of people with chemical or scent allergies or who are reactive to pollens and environmental issues.Children are especially difficult to educate and the younger they are diagnosed the easier the parent will find it to educate that child in the same way a diabetic child must learn to live with the illness. Children also present a special problem in that they must also have patient parents in order to undo unpleasant behaviors or socially unacceptable habits that were beyond the child prior to a return to a normal mental and emotional platform. It should be remembered that a young child may not understand what normal and relative perception is, and must be catered for as the exploration of such a novel new experience commences. Children are often easily diagnosed by a parent after formal diagnosis due to the proper identification of each individual allergy source and the deliberate comparison of changes in the child against ‘newly known normal.’The growing issues. The issue of allergies in both adults and children grows annually and is well documented in the media and health system. Medicos profess a growing concern for the instances of children with quite life threatening allergies to increasing arrays of the common food sources. The individual should insist on a full skin testing program prior to commencing any form of medication for ‘inexplicable’ symptoms. It is not healthy to have an allergy masked by prescription drugs and medical ignorance. Copyright Unslaver.com 2005
