Green Tea slashes the risk of developing prostate cancer in high risk men

In a study of 62 men at high risk of developing prostate cancer, 30 were in the control group and 32 were supplemented with a Green Tea Polyphenol supplement. 9 out of the 30 in the control group developed prostate cancer (30%), while only 1 out of the 32 men on Green Tea Polyphenols developed prostate cancer (3%). Clearly, Green tea Polyphenols clearly prevents prostate cancer in men according to the researchers. The men in the study had high grade PIN (prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia) premalignant lesions that mutate into invasive prostate cancer within one year, the men ranged from 45 to 75 years of age. Earlier studies show that EGCG from Green Tea targets prostate cancer cells for death without damaging the healthy cells. The EGCG kills cancer cells and leaves healthy cells alone possibly by inducing the Clusterin gene activity specifically and only in prostate cancer cells. Clusterin is an important gene that triggers cell death. The study was presented at the 96th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research.
