Guest guest
I'am sending this message out to the SWC list for Traci, and Dave, and to you Liam, if you can help about finding this woman a good doctor. She's someone on the MCS Canada group, of people who are sensitive to chemicals who has moved from Quebec out to BC, and lives by the ocean. Thanks, Janice. Teremka <teremka_20 hello Hi, I haven't written in a long time. Mostly because I've been trying to sort out my life after moving from Quebec to BC. I also notice a much friendlier tone lately than when I used to post. That's nice to see!! It's been a very rough year, but my health has also improved tremendously! I've moved four times (the first being the big move across Canada, then 3 subsequent times to find the right place). Moving is exhausting! Anyway, now I'm living on a chicken farm in a mobile home. I pay a bit of rent and pay off the rest by doing chores on the farm. It can be difficult because I struggle with my energy levels. And the guy who owns the farm has big $$ signs in his eyes. He is a retired millionnaire who only sees the bottom line - he doesn't see that he has the potential to help a disabled women in need. But at least for now, I have a place to call home. I am very lucky because it's near the ocean, gets a cross-breeze of fresh air, and has well water. I was refused disability, so I am going to reapply. My doctor is an & *# who doesn't believe me and every other doctor I've tried to see has refused me. Sometimes it can be so hard! On the bright side of life, I've noticed wonderful improvements in my health. I can do more exercise, so long as I've been chem-free. I sleep well. I get more done. My body doesn't hurt as much. My thinking is clearer (though I still have many " MCS moments " , LOL). I've been (more or less) successfully coming off of the depression meds they put me on 6 years ago when they labeled me as " bipolar " . I have come to fully accept that I am in no way bipolar! It hit me when I was reading an old journal. All of my entries were depressed and screwed up when I was in the city. And, magically, my outlook changed all the times I wrote from trips to the country. Well, DUH! I feel like I have more to contribute to the list, now that I feel settled and clearer of mind. I have been feeling very isolated since living chem-free (and since moving away from everyone I know), so it would be nice to chat with you all. :-) Ann::::::: I empathize with your landlady/painting situation. I moved out of the last place I was in (place #3) because they stained the fence outside. I had asked them upon moving in, if they would be doing any renovations/painting and they said no. I also asked that they give me warning. One morning, I walked outside and got hit with stain fumes without warning. It's very difficult for others to understand just how much it affects us. They hear the words " ...chemical sensitivity.....please warn....makes me sick... " , but how much of it really sinks in? Until they themselves fully EXPERIENCE the immense difficulty and severity of illness that we live with, unfortunately, even those that mean well see it as an inconvenience to their convenient way of living. After all, chemicals were invented to PREVENT illness and to make life easier. They've been marketed as such. So, it's very difficult to un-brainwash those that still " need " chemicals. Anyway, I digress. I have found it helpful to be proactive. If it's a pain for someone to have to go and find the non-VOC paint and then pay more, then I offer to find it for them and (if I can afford it) chip in towards the cost difference, for example. (And hitting them with the law doesn't hurt, either). ;-) Good luck and I hope you find safe shelter in the meantime. :-) Solon

Janice, if she's on southern Vancouver Island she's close enough to my clinic, and I've treated many peple for MCS and similars that appear to be MCS.
