Guest guest
I want to relate a most unfortunate incident about a pet with a chronic allergy condition that due to his appearance caused the power hungry animal control office to have me arrested for animal abuse. Bobby's saga started when he was about three years old (he is now nine). He had a few hot spots so I took him to a traditional veterinarian. He was put on antibiotics, antihistamines, and steroids (he is still slightly bowlegged from the steroids). His hot spots did appear to improve (pharmaceuticals are great for covering symptoms) but the medications turned him from a playful young dog to a dog who basically ate, slept and peed. The next thing I knew he developed the worst case of flees that I have every seen in my life. I attributed the flees to the drugs weakening his constitution, took him of the drugs and treated his flea problem. After this his problems became better and worse as he would lose and regrow his fur. I was still giving him his shots at this point as I didn't know that this could be contributing to his problem. Two years later at a rabies shot clinic the vet noticed his condition and thought that he had mange. I brought him in for testing, No mange - a yeast infection was found (not a surprise as antibiotics will cause an imbalance of gut flora and cause chronic yeast infections. We treated this with medical baths and after this again the vet diagnosed allergies. The vet wanted to put him on an expensive prescription food. About this time I was reading about the BARF (raw food ) diet for pets and decided I would try this route. A friend gave me a book and at first I prepared all of his foods from scratch. I then found a pet store that was about an hour away (but happened to be in an area that I was doing some temp marketing work) that sold a frozen prepared BARF diet. I put him on this food. He had a lot of improvement but never recovered 100%. The pet store suggested that a homeopath may help his condition but the only one in the area wasn't taking any new patients. When my job ended six months later I decided to try him back on good quality pet food from the health food store. I started him on Wysong and had some more improvement initially but after a while he back slid. I then changed to another one of Wysong's formulas with similar results. At one point I talked to the Wysong rep. He said that with some allergic pets - you need to keep changing their food as they become allergic after a period of time. So began my search for the perfect food for Bobbie. And as the rep suggested with an initial intro of a new food he would usually do well and then start having problems again. About two years ago I heard of another holistic pet clinic opening ( I talked to the vets at a holistic expo) I was prepared to start Bobby there and than my husband lost his job of ten years leaving us with financial problems. So I put the plans for holistic veterinary care on hold and continued the quest for the perfect food. Fast forward to the present. We went away for the weekend leaving the dog home to be taken care of be a friend who would visit twice a day. The dog was put in the garage (with his favorite sleeping bag that he slept on) so that he wouldn't mess in the house. Unfortunately my husband left the door from the garage to the house ajar and the dog made his way back into the house. My friend wanting to help attempted to get the dog from his hiding spot under the bed into the garage. The dog bit her arm (he is a small dog and can be nippy). The bite swelled which caused her to go to the emergency room. Of course than the police show up to take a report because that is the procedure in this town. The dog was put on quarantine for ten days (and because I had not given him a rabies shot since 2002 because of his allergy problems he had to be boarded out) The vet clinic where he was staying insisted on an initial exam before boarding. They found an ear infection which I agreed to treat. They also suspected his skin condition was caused by a bacterial infection and wanted to put him on antibiotics for this which I refused. They also wanted to give him an antibacterial bath to help his skin but knowing that the shampoo that they use would most likely contain sodium laurel sulfate which is a powerful degreaser that denatures protein I also refused this. My plan was to have him ride out the 10 days there and then when he was home to treat him with colloidal silver and bath him with tea tree oil castile soap. I was also told by the animal control officer that I would have to get treatment for my dog so I arranged an apt with a homeopathic vet but I had a waiting time of 3 weeks for the apt. On day 9 of his confinement I was notified that the town was taking custody or my pet and they were investigating me for animal abuse. They refused to tell me where he was and did not return my phone calls Three days later they came to my house with a warrant for my arrest. They brought me in in handcuffs and took photos and fingerprints and made me wait in a jail cell until the bail officer came. It was a horrible experience I have to go to court on this on Tues. Last Tues (more than 2 weeks after the town took custody) the vet clinic called and told me Bobby was there and that they would like to get this matter resolved. The office manager said he would call the police dept and see if he could get the dog released. On Wed I was allowed to take Bobby home as long as I paid a $700 vet bill that I never authorized. (It was a catch 22 because if I didn't pay the bill he would have to stay there and build up even more charges) They currently have him on an antibiotic which they want him on for 6 weeks and also an anti fungal. He now has a yeast infection which I contribute to the antibiotics. They also put him on expensive prescription food. which so far he has refused to eat. (I feel like I have to at least keep him on this regime until Tuesday when I go to court even though I feel that the drugs are probably messing up his immune system further) They also did some other testing and again came up with chronic allergies. Of course they want to run a whole panel of allergy tests and a thyroid profile. In closing beware the medical mafia they want not only every person but also your pets on their drugs for life. Also please keep me in your thoughts on Tuesday as I go to court to defend myself on the charges of animal abuse Cheryl Rounds Mail Stay connected, organized, and protected. Guest guest
Cheryl, I live in Atlanta and Listen to Neal Boortz. If you are familiar with him, you know he loves these kinds of stories -not about your poor dog, but how the government decides what is best for us. If you don't mind, I would like to forward your story to him. If this is happening to you, you can bet others have experienced the same. (we're still in America, aren't we? sure doesn't seem like it) ....this made me cry, but i can't telll you if it was from the experience Bobby and you have endured or from anger.....a little of both, i believe...... .....have your name on a piece of paper, as well as Bobby's and put them in my prayer bowl.....you for sure will be in my prayers this coming week..... .....i can't think of anything "mean-n-ugly enough" to say about all this---words completely escape me, so, i will close......but know that you and your furry baby will be in my prayers.... threefeathers Cheryl Rounds <noworganics wrote: In closing beware the medical mafia they want not only every person but also your pets on their drugs for life. Guest guest
Dang, Cheryl !!
