They ruled thatthe city of New London, CT, can force 15 homeowners to give up their privateproperty so that it can be turned over to private developers. The Supreme Court's ruling on eminent domain expands the power ofgovernment to take private property. Up until now, state and localgovernments have used eminent domain to expropriate private propertyfor projects that would be owned by the public, such as roads orpublic utilities. Read "High court's property decision stirs anger" http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=44958 Justice Sandra Day O'Connor had it right when she said, "Nothing isto prevent the state from replacing any Motel 6 with a Ritz-Carlton,any home with a shopping mall or any farm with a factory. ... Thegovernment now has license to transfer property from those with fewerresources to those with more. The founders cannot have intended thisperverse result." The Supreme Court ignored the intent of the framers of theconstitution an expanded their power – giving government the power toseize private property from the little man and give it to the bigcorporation. If the government decides a mall would produce more taxincome than your home or a church, they can now take your home or achurch. However, some U.S. Senators have introduced a bill, S.1313, thatwould limit the use of eminent domain only "for public use" in thetraditional sense. It is called The Protection of Homes, SmallBusinesses, and Private Property Act of 2005. Take Action Today!
