Email: nat.opc AK 642 111 Herbalism and Maori Rongoa Medicine under Threat The Society of Natural Therapists and Researchers Inc. are in the process of forming a New Zealand Association of Herbalists because we are finding increasingly that the Allopathic Medical Profession are trying to take over Herbalism with the impending attempted takeover of the Trans Tasman Joint Therapeutic Agency. The New Zealand Association of Medical Herbalists will require a minimum of 3 years full-time training in Medical Sciences and Herbal Medicine. To licence Herbalism under Medical Herbalism is totally wrong. Why register Herbalism under Medicine which is most recent, whereas Herbalism has been around for 5000 years? The N.Z. Charter of Health Practioners Inc. has urged our support for a campaign to stop the Trans Tasman Joint Therapeutic Agency. That Agency is Codex driven, to lower the effectiveness of Natural Medicine by reducing allowable doses and so is diverting public spending on healthcare away from Natural and towards Allopathic Medication. The Trans Tasman Agency if allowed by the New Zealand public would impose an additional cost on every Natural Product of $30,000; being $5,000 upon application, $10,000 upon presentation and $15,000 upon testing. The proposed Joint Agency would now also include Herbal and Homeobotanical Medicine and Maori Rongoa Medicine and so would be restrictive. It is designed to restrict the use of Natural Medicine as has happened in other Overseas Countries. Please phone and write to your Member of Parliament and help stop this over-regulation of our freedom of health choice that was designed by the Pharmaceutical Industry to control our spending on health care.
