Guest guest
Here is a link to a website and information that I had gathered for a friend whose teen-aged daughter was attending a school who maintained a vegetarian meal plan. She became anemic, so I sent this link to him to pass along to her. As it turned out, she was drinking tea each day, and the tannic acid was preventing the absorption of iron. It contains an excellent chart of foods and their iron content. Anna Phytic and tannic acids are two food components that, when consumed in large amounts, prevent the absorption of iron. Phytic acid is found in rye bread and other foods made from whole grains. Phytic acid is also found in nonherbal teas. Tannic acid is found in commercial black and pekoe teas, coffee, cola drinks, chocolate, and red wine. http://www.gicare.com/pated/edtot38.htm
