Guest guest
Up until about six or seven years ago you could buy Quinine Sulfate over the counter and it worked extremely well for leg cramps. It was designed for Malaria. Too many folks were getting leg cramp relief with it instead of spending big bucks with their doctors so it was taken off the over the counter sales. Now you need a prescription to get it. Greed entered into the picture just as it is trying to do with Codex. My wife use to use it quite frequently and she passed away Jan of two thousand and when my house burned in 2002 I salvaged a unopened bottle of it. I cracked it open a couple of weeks ago and it still works even though the expiration date was 1999. - treblclef2 Sunday, May 22, 2005 10:51 PM QUESTION = Leg Cramps Caroline, What are the benefits of Quinine? Guest guest
We can't get quinine here in Australia anymore. Used to get it by prescription. When I asked my doctor what I could do he suggested a product called "Crampeze" which was a mat thingy you put at the foot of your bed so you didn't get leg cramps.. I get cramps all over my body so I asked what I could use. He suggested the Tonic water then which they use for Gin and Tonic drinks.. It is a plain soda drink with a small amount of quinine in it which gives it that bitter taste. I quite enjoyed it but it only helped me minimally. It was better than nothing but didn't do a great deal till I got the magnesium with cramp bark which really did work and I reckon it was healthier than quinine which had side effects according to the so called health authorities. I had taken quinine for about 20 years with no bad effects up till then. A lot of people with fibromyalgia get bad cramps. Jen
