Guest guest
This was someone's message sent in a list (as I'am sending this to a friend and another list), but it does give a different perspective! Janice. Yes I am disabled! I am not ashamed to admit it. IMO it is so sad when so many people here tell themselves they aren=B4t really disabled, they just cannot hear... It is SAD. They haven=B4t realized or they don't know disability is a POLITICAL issue, it is not only a medical problem. Even the UN has acknowlegded disability is a HUMAN RIGHTS issue: <http://www.hrea.org/lists/hr-headlines/markup/msg00728.html> (The site also has topics on Poverty being an insult to Human Dignity,....) I am disabled and there are no if, buts and situational factors to it. I am disabled, will always be even with Ci on, AND I refuse to accept it is a medical problem. It is very much a policitical problem, a human rights issue. I also refuse to consider myself any less worthy than non-disabled people. The globe belongs to everyone, not only to the nondisabled. - It is about time we hoh/deaf people joined other disabled people in their struggle for accessible environment and equal human rights,, instead of asking here questions like " My family doesns't like if the tv program is captioned, can I still put on the captions " or something else equally silly. If anyone tried to prevent me from watching captioned tv programs I would punch them on the nose, and that is just one example. Wake up people!!!
