Guest guest
Volcanic rock dust – it supplies minerals that plants need to grow. Carol Ed Siceloff Does anybody know what I can put in the soil of my aloe vera plant to make better growing conditions. I don't want just a quick shot of fertilizer, it probably already has that in the commercial growing mixture. Its an older plant (as far as they last for me) and has many branches but it looks like it is weakening? Ed

Guest guest
tell me the symptoms of what you mean by weakening. if they dont get enough water they lose their turgidity ( get floppy) aloe is a succulent and needs a lot of water. do you have a hole in the bottom of the pot that lets the water run out? - Ed Siceloff Monday, May 02, 2005 6:57 PM question for ya'll Does anybody know what I can put in the soil of my aloe vera plant to make better growing conditions. Guest guest
I can't have a hole letting the water run out, it would run out all over everything. The plant has done well by watering every couple of weeks. Soaking it. It sometimes does lose " turgidity " but never has actually been floppy. It looks weak in its coloring though. Bottom of pot has rocks in it. It is a fairly large pot. When I've watered it more often it does worse. It is a plant with many shoots but nothing every gets large. Guest guest
Ed – you have to have a drainage hole in the bottom of your pot, or else the roots will become waterlogged and rot. Put a saucer under the pot to collect the runoff, and then dump that, so it doesn’t sit in the water. Guest guest
you are watering it right... soaking every couple of weeks is about right. I think you are right that it just needs nutrients. the soil is probably worn out. perhaps you could call your local garden store and ask them what is the best soil or plant booster for your aloe. if you cant pin down what is for sure the right thing to fertilize it with then I suggest just getting some good potting soil and repotting it. - Ed Siceloff Tuesday, May 03, 2005 3:50 AM Re: question for ya'll I can't have a hole letting the water run out, it would run out all over everything.
