Echinacea tincture

I have a *huge* bottle of ech. tincture that I made myself with

instructions from a naturopath I know. It was made with fresh,

organic echinacea and some kind of high proof alcohol (everclear,

maybe) about a year ago. The problem is that I never strained out

the plant matter because I was told that I could strain if I wanted

to but didn't *need* to. We just use a dropper to suck some of the

tincture out of the bottle when we need it.

So, now that I've read Doc's instructions on making tinctures I'm

wondering, is it a loss since it was never strained? Should I

strain it now and continue to use it?

Thanks,

Shayla Roberts

IMO..if you tinctured with alcohol according to the directions of

your naturopath with either leaves or roots either fresh or dried, it

should last for a long time. even if it were pressed and strained,

there is no way to press ALL of the residue from it any way and many

herbalist that i have talked to leave the herb in the bottle. it

doesn't look as lovely as a clear tincture but the alcohol should keep

it from going bad. it may just get stronger as the alcohol will

evaporate to some extent.

love..granny lee.
